I think it'd be interesting to have an HBD-like diamond in the rough system for walk-ons / recruits under a certain skill threshold, even if it were just 5% of bad players that got it. Every now and again a Scottie Pippen or Andre Drummond comes around IRL, and while I know HD recruiting isn't realistic (I know it's not! I swear! Please don't bring it up!), I think this would add a fun wildcard factor to walk-ons. Thoughts?

Or maybe some sort of thing that allows Freshman to flourish, or show signs of greatness. With current IQ system freshman are basically useless their first year for scoring.

long discussion - mostly in the context of recruit generation.

My take long was that some tiny percentage of FR should have B+/A- ish IQ in a system

Now, of those, a tiny percentage would have top level ability

Of course, LeBrons are rare

One step down, there would be a tiny, but less tiny, share with B IQ to start....

Without putting much thought into it... This. IQ is the only way to make Fr. great and there by effect the game. If you do this right you'd definitely have the ability to make it work at all divisions.

Guys would complain that you are introducing another coin flip into the game.

I've felt that way for quite some time as well. I've also thought that, like every other stat, IQ should be capped at the top end of the spectrum as well. Because, let's face it, some people just don't "get it" beyond a certain point, no matter how much you hammer it at them in practice. The notion that everyone can get to an A+ level if just practiced enough minutes and possessing a high enough high school GPA and work ethic is silly.

It would also introduce interesting tradeoffs on team Off/Def practice minutes vs. individual minutes that we don't see now. Do I take guys who cap at B so I can throw more minutes early at their personal development? Do I bypass the stud who will never be above a C+ in the press? Do I grab the low potential guys that have little growth so I can max out team practices to escalate their IQs as quickly as possible?

Just a wrinkle...

Oh yeah, I love this idea. It complicates recruiting (which I love), but it'd add more strategy to the game.

As it works in HBD, DITR would be terrible, if applied to this game. However, I would be interested in seeing some offseason swings in WE.

You know, girlfriend dumped me...mom started shooting heroin...I discovered spirituality / weed...my uncle lit a fire under my ***... Not an adjustment in effective ratings, but an infrequent 5-15 point change up or down. That might make those single digit WE recruits a real gold mine...very rarely though.

Don't we already have DITR type recruits? I have had guys that start in the mid 500's and finish in the high 800's. I have had guys gain 70+ points in LP or Per, and 60+ in Def. I have had guys go up 40-50 points in Ath or Spd. It was always a nice surprise when I got one of those guys.

I was just going to say: I like this idea but isn't the 40+ high/high kinda a DITR in itself--even in just one rating?
