Adter spending attention points on a player and getting close to the point of offering a scholarship, I decided to inform that i was going to redshirt him. At the next recruiting cycle my scholarship unlock was at 0% (down from 80%-ish in the previous cycle). Why did this happen? Is there a way to get back the previous progress?

for me, thats too early to inform of redshirt

first question to answer - do I want this guy ONLY if he takes the redshirt or do you want him and hope for redshirt?

I generally want to build up effort first - because the redshirt inform is a negative effort

how bad is it? in my experience it depends. If the player is at a level that he is thrilled to hear from you, the negative is small - say if my Maryland team talks to a no star player.....but if the player is a reach, seems like it is much more of a negative

what I do is build up effort, then inform - I cant say how much in 3.0 cause dont have enough data, In 2.0, I would do at least a few home visits first

if you want to get back in the game with that guy, consider taking off the redshirt
