Computer offering scholarships to Walkons? Topic

I just recently took over the dreadful Indiana program in Knight that came equipped with a team filled with Walk ons.

I had 9 scholarships available going into the late recruiting period and was able to sign two players. Imagine my surprise when I logged in the next day to notice that I now only had four available scholarships and the AP/Budget that goes with four opinions as opposed to six. Why and when did the Sim start offering scholarships to Walk ons?

I'm having a rough week on WIS!

They have programmed the game so you're not supposed to have more than 3 walk ons. They will fill spots beyond three with signed players. Ironically, that is screwed up and it is leaving teams with as many as 6 walk ons. I sent in a ticket with examples and heard nothing.

Are they filling the spots at the end of the second cycle or in between the first and second cycle?

For me it happened after the second cycle. It was hard enough picking up a team loaded with Walk Ons before the dreaded 2nd recruiting cycle but I had hope that the following season I would have a small fortune for recruiting. I was wrong. :/

I guess the lesson I learned form this is take advantage of all the scholarships being open towards the end of the second period. That way I can at least chose the players I get...

If they aren't signed by you, you should be able to cut them after the season without penalty. You can use those resources in the second session.

Interesting.

I was aware that I could cut them without penalty but I thought that I wouldn't regain any of the recruiting funds or AP.

Yes - Shoe is correct. It will help you in the second session. So, if you can open up some players you want that are late, once you cut the walk ons, you may be able to go all in on several players.

The caveat is that you never get resources for more than 6 scholarships. If you leave yourself 7 openings, you have to fill them with the resources for 6, and as you sign guys, the system adjusts APs down in proportion, so you're always going to have less APs per opening than you would have with 6.
