Taking advantage of high athleticism Topic

I've got a D3 team in a competitive conference which lost all of my offense. I have pretty strong defense and expect to have an athleticism advantage in most games...trying you figure out the best way to take advantage of it. I've heard it said ATH creates more FT. Maybe high tempo + ATH to have a FT and foul trouble advantage?

You're talking about Piedmont right?

I agree, you don't seem to have a lot of offense. You don't have any PER and your PG isn't great. I can't see your potentials so maybe it'll look better later on but yeah, you'll struggle to score. Your LP is decent though so maybe you can get your points that way.

Against the Sims and weaker teams, you should get them into foul trouble and score points that way. Against the good teams in your conference, it won't work nearly as well. You might be better served to go normal or slow to reduce possessions.

Another thing working against you is that you play Flex/Man. High ath/def works best in FB/Press IMHO. Think mr myers and Dickinson.

Shows will be a good D3 scorer as a shooting guard. I'd set him at -2 (maybe -1 sometimes, depending on matchups) and about 40% of your starting 5 distribution. Yelle is an acceptable D3 low-distro PG, though will be better with better IQ as the year goes on. Damato is probably your best 2nd option, around 25% of the starting 5. I probably would not go the full Dickinson route here, though Shows is a great guy to lean on in flex. You'll be living and dying with the mid-range jump shot, which is a tough way to play, but it can be done.

Just to follow up. I do think you have a damn good team. Could easily see S16. Just beyond that might be tough.

I appreciate the responses, I'll consider implementing some if that. Taking a step back, if I asked without the context of my team, how do you capitalize on ATH advantage all else equal?

I think I would try to push the ball inside a lot, and draw a lot of fouls. You'll cause the better players on other teams to foul out, and you will also score a lot of points from the line. I didn't look at the team, but if you don't have many outside shooters, that would be the best strategy.
