Line-Up Make-Up Topic

Here's a question I can't remember ever seeing asked before...

You're making up a line-up with eight position players (no DH in this league). You've got four great bats in the line-up and four "meh" bats in the line-up. Would it be better to:

A) Bat the four great bats 1-4 and the "meh" bats 5-8, or
B) Stagger them as in Great Bat, "Meh" Bat, Great Bat, "Meh" Bat, etc. etc.?

Just curious what most owners do...

Either

Great, Great, meh, Great, Great, meh, meh, meh

OR

Great, Great, Great, Great, meh, meh, meh, meh

Depends a bit on the mix of great (is there a high OBP, low-ish power guy who can hit leadoff) and meh (is there a low OBP power guy who makes an idea 3 hitter, or a guy who can run who should hit 9th, or a guy who can walk and has a solid OBP but can't hit for power at all, or some other considerations)

presuming the Greats have enough PAs to work through the season at what you consider acceptable fatigue, I'd go Great (x4) and meh(x4)

as mentioned it would depend on MEH OBP. And within that context what the MEH BB/100 is vs their BB/9 100# happens to be. Also a high OBP guy can bat 9 in addition to the usual 1 or 2 as a table setter for the great bats. You would also consider mixing them up differently when you are facing a low BB/9 (approaching 3 or better is considered high in my book) pitcher most of whom will sacrifice something in terms of OAV as a result. In that case I want my great hitters at the top getting as many PA's as possible... < pearls.

Concur with what others have said. There are several 'meh' players that are practically ideal fits for the #1 or #4 slots in the order, depending on the rest of your lineup.

Okay, thanks for the input one and all.

I think it's best to bunch the great bats together making it more likely to string together multiple hits.I might put them at #2- #5, giving them more separation from the weak hitting pitcher. unless they have high PA and you'd need #1- #4 to get all you can out of them.
