Changing positions - any impact? Topic

Hey guys I could use some help! I tried to find a recent thread on the topic and I couldn't! There is an option under "Coaching" that allows you to change a player's listed position. Is there any real impact on the player's attributes if you do so? On one team I have a PF who has the potential to be a good SF, on another team, I have a SF who has a lot of good PG attributes! Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

No, positions are "window dressing".

You can play your PF at SF while leaving him listed as PF. But what he's listed as won't matter in development.

I change them to make my life easier.

I try to confuse the heck out of people who will gameplan against me. On NW Nazarene, I have 5 centers, 5 point guards a shooting guard who has started every game at point and a small forward.

I have 7 PGs on my CNU team. 0 SF and 0 SG.

it only matters for postseason awards since they are by listed position.

In addition to post-season awards (which might matter to some), I think it matters in auto subs, too. I had a bad recruiting time and got two terrible players I don't play - a SG and SF.

So I listed 2 PGs and 2 SGs and 2 SFs on the depth chart because I wanted them to split time fairly evenly. For the first two, their positions were the same as listed but the back-up SF was actually listed as a PG. 1 PG fouled out (Freshman in Press) and the back-up SF got pulled over to back-up PG since that was what he was listed as. That happened even though he was the worst ball-handler out of all the other PG/SG/SF. Of course, I just fixed this by adding a third back-up, but I think that's the only other time it matters.

I use the change when it is obvious the guy won't ever play that position. For example: A SG who is athletic but slow (yellow/red 30-60 speed) and has a green 35-50 rebounding. Obviously going to play the SF, PF, or Center position in my system so I switch it. A PF or Center that can't rebound past 50 but has great speed and handles might make a nice guard/SF so why not pick him up and switch his position? Usually those guys come cheaper than expected.
