How to unload a large contract? Topic

I have a couple large contracts on the order of $10M per on players that are about 30 years old and have an overall rating around 80. I sort of regret signing them during free agency. I get that I could trade these players away, if I found a suitor, to get the contract off my books. Also my understanding is if I release them I'm still basically on the hook for the entire thing. My question is, how can I unload their salaries if I cannot find a trade partner? My thought is that I could waive them and likely get someone to take them for free (other than their big contracts of course). Is that a stupid idea? How can I waive them if they have option years remaining? Any guidance would be great. Thanks

You can waive them and hope they're claimed. But, honestly, if they had value, you wouldn't want to get rid of them. Or you'd find a trade partnet. And, if they don't have value, why would anyone claim them?

McDowell and Picasso are on the DL. You can't do anything with them on the DL.

Yeah I know being on the DL prevents anything from happening. Pretty much asking for the future.

As far as value I sort of think they are on the line, a team might not want to trade for them but if they could get them for free I could see someone snagging one of them. Not sure.

Part of my situation is that I actually have solid replacements for them in my system/bench.

Waive them when they come off the DL. If anyone sees value, they'll claim them. Trade or claim is the only way they come off your books.

Ok thanks a lot.
