Sound the minutiae alarm... but i have a quick question:

Assuming the sole benefit of MiLB playoffs (from what I've read) is extra games/AB/IP... which leads to higher probability of increased attributes...

Then wouldn't it make more sense to shoot for seeds #3-#6 instead of seeking a first round bye? This way your MiLB squad would potentially get a chance at an extra series?

Yes but that's not as easy as it sounds. You can start trying to lose games late but, odds are, you're playing a team that is on auto-pilot.

You're failing to recognize that he's saying he COULD be a 1-2 seed thus be one of the better teams. That changes the equation.

In short, a 100 playing like a 70 because of mass subs is still a 100 when the starters go back in.

The odds of losing any series seems relatively "scary". You know as well as I do that the best team doesn't always win. Just depends on what risk you want to take to get an extra 15-20 AB or 12 IP as the assumption is you're playing better teams each round. I'd rather have a 3-6 match-up as my first series than a 2-3.

The main point is that the path to "higher probability of increased attributes..." is to bypass variance. The faulty logic is assuming you will Always win in the first round. The best analogy I can think of is like in holdem when going all in with AA preflop people Always assume they'll win because they have the best possible hand at the time, but in reality you lose way more often than Never

Can't that same faulty logic be applied to the LDS? I'm sure it can. You could play 3 games in the WC round or the LDS. But you only have one way to play both series. Start in the WC round.

I know you just want to argue but, if you want those extra games, you have to play in them first.

But also the greatest benefit would be to get to the 5th game of the first series, which means your chance of losing goes up from 20% or whatever in general to 30-40% in the one-game finale

thanks for the excellent debate fellas. appreciate the insight.

of course, crappy drafting and terrible trades are probably causing more damage than a few extra MiLB playoff games are going to fix...

Minor League playoffs are meaningless, and if you are winning minor league championships, it means you are wasting money signing players that will never make your ML team.
