Had 4 long shot opportunities at low level D-1 schools last season. Ended up with a PIT berth this season, is this enough to get me into D-1? I have to make decision on whether to use another season, but returning to Chico isn't really an option or staying in D-2.

You would think and Elite 8, 1st Rd NT and PIT bid would be worth more than 3 NT berths.

Also, would've gotten in as a 10 or 11 seed if it weren't for the .500 rule. Oh well. At least I saved $12.95..lol

Not from what I was told or experienced. That said, I didn't have an E8. I imagine you will still get longshots.

You are getting longshots but you need another nt.

System hates a losing record, too. Gonna be hard to get many good looks coming off of one... much less 2 of your last 4 and 3 of 5.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of some D- jobs opening up as Qualified at the D1 level. The 3 NT appearances at D2 is a good rule of thumb, but it's not absolute and your E8 may help. Another year of experience might just push you over the edge if you weren't eligible for anything after last season. I've been eligible for low D1 jobs after just 2 D2 NT appearances, albeit with some decent D3 success before that.

Wizard, I don't like your odds, but the very good RPI makes this a really interesting question.

I hope you come back and tell us what options you ended up with, but I totally get why you might not feel like it's worth it. The jobs process is harsh.

I'm probably going to end up renewing just out of curiosity. If I end up in D-2, I'll probably select another school. Our conference is brutal.

Running from competition? It's hard to be manly when playing a sim game on the internet but running from a challenge makes it even harder.

I don't really view it as a manly vs unmanly thing, it's more about being smart.

I've learned you can manipulate the preferences while recruiting by playing a weak schedule. Also there is a projection report to determine where you're seeded in the tournament and is no longer based on RPI.

theWizard : Having a tough conference is probably the most fun in D2... I only play in tough conférences, it sure does not help when it comes to the CT or getting seeded sometimes but you see what you need to win it at D2. Teamvip, arguably the best D2 coach, is playing in a tough conference and I guess it helps his coaching. In 3.0, coaching has gotten more important IMO.

There are a lot of ways to play the game and enjoy. I like competition. Going 28-3 season after season vs 27 sim teams doesn't seem like a lot of fun to me. That seems like Madden on rookie. From our Little E conference chat:

Not saying that your "you see what you need to win at D-2" comment isn't true, but you also have to take into consideration that if you have a glaring weakness, that can't be corrected, and the other coaches pick up on it, for instance, lack of perimeter shooting, that can also work against you. Or maybe playing -3 works really well against a certain team, where it's not as easily detectable playing a SIM. It's harder to game plan against that type of team, in the NT, that hasn't played human coaches. If you're an experienced coach, going back to your original comment, you should know what you need to win.

I'm not trying to stir up an argument, just stating an opinion. Getting the best players possible should be the first priority in trying to win a title. The difference between very good and average in defense, could be the "make or break" between getting that one recruit that puts you over the top and losing out. That's the way I view it.
