Walk-On Given Schollie... WE Always Go To 100? Topic

Wondering how often this happens...?

I got a serviceable walk-on last season who had a WE of 66. During RS2, i gave him a scholarship. Luckily his Work Ethic immediately skyrocketed to 100. Is this typical?

I don’t know if it’s an always type of situation but it’s certainly an often.

seems like i read here a few weeks back that someone claimed thier walkon gained potential when he offered him a schollie. he had categories turn from black to green or whatever. i had never hear that before and cant verify the source... but take it for what its worth

Nope. I gave a walk-on a schollie just for fun on my new Mary Hardin Baylor team to check out this phenomena. None of his skills upgraded to green and his WE leapt, but not up to 100.

Thanks guys.

My guy's colors didn't change unfortunately.

I've also found in my experience that the quality of the walk-on has depended on the quality-prestige of my team.

I have offered Three Players after they had walked on. The two D1 guys went to 100 WE, and the offer at D2 level did not. Could be the starting point because both D1 offered guys were above 60 WE to start and the D2 was on 22 WE. He only went up to the 65-70 range best I remember.

Here's a fun oddity-- if you look at this guy's main page, his WE went up 38 (upon receiving the scholly, one assumes). If you look at his ratings history, it started at 74.

i think it started at 36 and went to 74

were those guys really worth giving 4 year schollies? I cant recall ever getting a walkon who I thought was in the range of wanting to consider keeping

Good point, i agree. He's the first walk-on that i ever kept.

In my situation, i had redshirted a guy and expected him to be my backup PG the following year, last name was like Schrempf or something. But then 3 of his greens turned to blue immediately, and he wasn't developing fast enough. At the same time, i was handed a walkon named Nelson, who had a 77 for DEF and an 84 for BH, and who actually got some run that year.

Then during recruiting i got out-manuevered on a couple of serviceable backup PG's. It ended up that Nelson was a better option, with his SPD, DEF, BH and PASS being non-horrific (i aim for 70+ minimum in those categories for PG's). So i cut Schrempf and kept Nelson.

Wow npb, Nelson's got to be one of the 5 five best walkons I've ever seen. He's not D1 starter material, but he's not going to embarrass you either. Good for you.

He wasn't, but I'm using MHB as an experimental school as it is and was willing to waste a roster spot to see what would happen. Would never have signed that guy to my DePauw dynasty in Knight.

In the end, he might actually be better than some D3 sim starting SF's -- still not someone who will ever see more than 5 mins a game.

Projects to end up something like this:

ATH 40
SPD 50
REB 35
DEF 30
BLK 20
LP 45
PER 50
BH 40
PAS 28
WE 74 (leaving this static because he'll never get enough playing time to boost it much)
ST 70
DU 54
FT B/B+
TOTAL 536
