How many players do you rank in amateur draft? Topic

A) Top 50
B) Top 100
C) Top 300 (I am crazy)
D) Top 500 (I am crazy insane)
E) Other

And is there a fast way to rank a lot of players other than the tedious scrolling drag-and-drop nonsense?

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
I find only the players I think will be useful major league players and float ‘em to the top. Usually ends up between 50 and 70. Main thing I do by this is get them above the AAAA players, guys with high OVR who can’t hit; pitchers who can throw a ton of AAA innings.

Only 10 minutes? No way.

I only posted on this one because I like Opie. Contrary to popular belief I don't have an opinion on everything

No, but when you do, it's a long-winded opinion.

Only everything you have an opinion on.

I rank as many guys as I think have a chance at making the majors. None of that potential DiTR bull.

Usually this means 30 legit guys with 20 that are just fun (catchers with 90+ pitch calling, SS with defensive ratings all over 85, guys with speed over 85 with a base running over 80, lefties with a VsL over 80 etc)

Thx for responses, esp. PJs. I wish there was an easier way to upload our lists. Perhaps they do this on purpose to make sure only those that spend ridiculous time can rank everyone. But being able to upload a player list with rank would be nice.

I only spend about two hours on it, total. But I spread that out over three or four of the seven days before the draft. Also, that's for my 20mil College scouting draft where I see 500 projections or close to it. The league in which I have 20mil HS, I usually see only about 200 projections, so 50 useful prospects tops. I spend more time in that draft moving the garbage players to the bottom of my list.

One last point, it all depends on the draft board.

I just set up my board in Gibson and I only ranked about 20 players. This is because the draft this year is god aweful. I honestly only saw about 15 guys that could make the majors. Meaning there is probably about 30-40 guys out there. Not good at all. No way I am wasting my time deciding which guys I would want that will make AAA over AA. Its just not worth it.

The simple answer, which I've given before, is "you rank everyone you think can help you at the BL level at some point". Anything less is hurting your team, anything more is a waste of time.

This.

I built a pretty elaborate Excel spreadsheet, where I can just dump draftees in with all their hitting, pitching, and defense stats and it knows which players I consider Major League material. It's usually about 50 to 75 guys. Then I spend some time ranking them.

These days almost every draft has potential BL players that drop. You can see a bunch of forum posts about it. "How did so and so drop to the 8th round?" If you are diligent with your drafts and whatever process you come up with, more often than not you can pick these guys up as long as you can see them.

I sort SPs and usually between 6-8 are pot'l big leaguers with 2 or 3 being coveted. I mix in top positional players and that usually gives me a strong top 12. I then rank the next 20 or so with an emphasis on getting the duds out of the top 30. Ranking #25 thru #35 are usually guys with a single glaring weakness that i am willing to take a flier on with hopes that my 20 mil scouting might be off on that on attribute. If i sort anymore than that it's to arrange solid career AAA player with very little thought except for getting them ranked above the duds I want no part of. I typically get about 5 players I have ranked and it works for me
