Cutting A Player? Topic

I've never cut a player that I recruited before, but I have a freshman who just isn't any good. He was about Plan F and he had 3-4 core ratings change colors immediately. I thought he'd grow into a so-so career backup, but if he ever plays more than 10 minutes I'm going to suck.

How much will it hurt me in future recruiting if I cut him after the season and sign somebody else with that scholarship?

I believe your reputation will take a small hit, but it isn’t a huge deal if you cut him. I think it only becomes an issue if you do it constantly.

Also out of curiosity, what player is it? The most annoying thing is when core rating change colors after the first exhibition game.

Edit: Forgot to mention that there is a **small** chance that other players on your team will leave in the wake of cutting him. I’ve talked to a few seasoned coaches though, and this seems to be pretty rare.

No harm. Worst part about cutting your own player is that you will not get any additional recruiting resources, like AP or scouting cash.

Whitney. I think he had two cores change after the first exhibition game (including his only green one), and then another one or two in the first several games.

I may not cut him, but I'm on track sign a significantly better PG this year, and I think I could probably sign another player even without adding more resources. I won't cut him until I'm confident of that though.

If you don't want to cut him you could just take him off the depth chart and hope he transfers next year

If you " take him off the depth chart and hope he transfers next year" is your reputation/recruiting ability negatively impacted?
Thanks.

guys who you wish would transfer seem to never go - only the ones you hope will stay

have long urged a dropdown menu of ways to encourage transfers

- inform player he will not play much this season
- inform player he will not play much next season
- require player to wash team laundry
- date player's girlfriend

My advice is cut him immediately. It is a shame that you don't get resources for him. But I've cut plenty of guys since I've been back at this. Guys I recruited. It hasn't dented my loyalty or reputation. And didn't affect any of my other players (although "they" say it's possible that it does).

In Smith, I played one season at D3, then jumped to D2. Had a horrible RS2 with my D2 team. This season (the 2nd season with my team), I cut a freshman I signed last season. My loyalty and reputation are still both A+.

If you can leave schools after a season and cut players after your first season at a school, in a total of 2.5 seasons as a coach in a world, I feel like it's safe to say that it doesn't have much of an impact at all.

But I guess there's a chance for some type of negative response somewhere. I've just never seen it. I've cut probably 8-10 players I recruited. And nothing.

there is a small reputation effect which should have a small - hard to even notice - effect on your recruiting efforts

now, if you cut more than one guy who you recruited expect more than linear adverse effects

And there is a tiny risk that some other player will quit because you cut his buddy - reported now and then -rare indeed

I am glad someone posted this - been eons since I cut a person. But I took over a DI team and "signed" 6 guys when I really recruited 1. granted the other 5 are ok but one couldnt make a D2 team.
