Attention Points Topic

I’m back to playing HD under the new scouting and recruiting system. Can we not start distributing attention points until actual recruiting starts? I can’t find a way to use them in scouting.

I have a question about APs too. Is there any reason to keep attention points on a recruit once I’ve unlocked everything? Are they recruiting actions in and of themselves? Or are they just there for the purpose of unlocking actions?

They're still recruiting, replaced the old system of calls and letters, IIRC

Yes. They do keep accruing effort credit, though it’s relatively small once battles get into promises and visits. Investing very large chunks of attention does end up being significant in battles, especially when the final disparity is significant, and essentially represents how highly you’ve prioritized the recruit.

I'm new to using Attention Points too. Can someone tell me the best way to use them? The last time I had a team, Attention Points weren't available.

Welcome to 3.0. I am also pretty new to the system, just came back in March. I would recommend reading the 3.0 megathread and if you still have questions (you will) pick a mentor or two and ask questions.

At D3, I usually pick 1-2 targets I want to prioritize from the first cycle. They are usually high level D2 or low level D1 pool recruits. I want them to be good, but to have flaws I think higher division teams will pass on. I may put the bulk of my APs - roughly 3/5 - on the high priority guy/guys. The rest I will spread out, 1-2 apiece, on a bunch of secondary and backup options.

After the first cycle runs, I see where others have have landed. If there are D1 or high D2 humans on my high priorities, I tend to move on, though I may watch to see if they’re serious. Also, if I think I have a preference advantage, I may hang on a little longer. I’ll tend to move off of secondary and backup guys with higher level humans right away. Throughout the next few cycles, I’ll be culling my target list down to a handful of guys I am in good shape on. I aim to start with a secondary/backup group of at least 3 guys per scholarship I intend to fill, besides my high priority guys. By cycle 4, I usually have attention down to 1 secondary/backup per scholarship (who are getting maybe 3-5 APs per cycle at this point), and my high priority guys still getting the bulk of my APs.

I also pay a lot of attention to when guys will sign. If they want to sign first session, I know I will have big problems keeping a higher level human off them.

3.0 chapel thread and what shoe just said. Great road map. Invest bigger in your top targets, and scale from there down to 1 AP on the guys you are either fishing to see if you can get, or on a lower rated high potential guy that you know you can get but don’t have to invest early. If it’s a good match (distance, pref, signing pref), then opening with 15-20 AP or more to unlock scholly first and get to the lead is smart. Don’t be afraid to scatter AP over 20 or more recruits, then fine tune per cycle per shoe post. I’ve found a good safety net is to keep 1-3 AP on late signees so you can turn those up second cycle if your top guys are getting picked off. If you see better teams than you out front, then it’s decision time do you want to pursue and battle, or start looking at tier 2, tier 3 etc.

If you do get the lead, and you are confident the player will sign, you can decide to dial back the AP a bit and use those elsewhere. Stay fluid with AP and don’t get too attached to them.

Something else to consider, if you have a cycle with good resources (3 or more open schollys), pref matchup, based on who he’s considering, etc you think you can win, go all in with CV, 20 HV, promises, and grind it out (prob need to be heavy with AP here too 20+ etc per cycle). Allocate rest of funds for tier 2/3 high potential targets and try for a premium player (or players), and then bargain hunt. All in may work best for an early signee if you can get the lead and scare off the pack. Not knowing your prestige, all in on a desired recruit signing late can be a heartbreaking experience. Good luck.
