3pt Shooting Complaints Topic

Every time someone complains about a wacky 3pt shooting performance, I'll just post this thread.

1st round game in NT and the sim pulls some unbelievable 3pt shooting out it's AI ***.

Jesse Morree with a whopping 1 perimeter goes 1-1
James Farrell with 29 perimeter goes 2-2
Brandon Bryant with 16 perimeter goes 1-1

And this against my defensive setting at -1 and my bigs with defensive ratings 100, 99 and 89. Ooookay.

I won, so not a big deal. Just pointing out crazy performances happen for the next time someone posts about a crazy performance.

Happens all the time with SIM teams. They get everyone involved in the 3pt offense, which may somehow explain why their crappy perimeter shooters can hit 3s.

Is this why +1 is recommended against SIMs? To account for some of the craziness?

No, this doesn't happen all the time.

By all the time was a bit of a generalization, but meant crappy perimeter players hitting 3's. Not so much the lights out shooting from beyond the arc for the entire team.

My theory (not seeing the programming) is for any given play other than FTs there is a minimum (30-35%?) (maybe 15% for 3's) and maximum (65-70%?) (maybe 55% for 3's) base die roll/chance of success, REGARDLESS of any attributes or settings. If this is the case, it wouldn't necessarily help you to go + if you already have your opponent at a minimum die roll at 0 or in the minuses. They're going to get lucky on 3's on occasion and there's nothing you can do about it other than to kick their butts elsewhere (as Benis did.)

Digging a little deeper....

The pf on Davidson took 1/3 of his shots all year, around 60, and shot 43% from behind the arc. He has 63 perimeter, 40 speed, and 36 ball handling. He did have an A- iq in flex.

These numbers seemed a lot high to me. Maybe the flex helps more with threes than I thought

Here's my opinion on that-

If a SIM has terrible 3pt shooters then I invite them to shoot the 3s and take the chance of having a crazy or highly unlikely result. I think this increases my overall chance of winning by 1) shutting them down inside where they're stronger and 2) having them shoot a high volume of shots they're bad at.

In my 100ish seasons of playing, I can't really remember many games against SIMs where I lost by going minus and the SIM getting hot from 3pt land and beating me.

Now, I don't really think there is a huge difference between -1 and +1 but every little bit can help theoretically.

Yeah I noticed that guy's 3pt% too and thought it was pretty high considering his ratings. Not to mention he started the season with 47 Per so that 65 per is misleading on how 'good' he really was. I didn't really dwell on it too much and chalked it up to playing poor defenses.

But he went 2-4 from 3 against NMSU and they have elite defenders and didn't show any stamina issues throughout the game. Which just adds on to how crazy unlikely this sim was.
