if you had the opportunity to pick your offense and defense because you took over a new team, rescinded the roster except for one senior guard, signed 6 freshman, 2 transfers, and will have three walkons so you could have more recruiting money for next season, what would you run?

I am a big fan of triangle/zone if you are.going to.consistently have some walk ons.

Personally I like man to man and motion. My main thing is that I dislike zone defense.

i don't typically have walkons unless i lose in recruiting.

Motion/Press if D3, Motion/Man if D2. Never played D1, so can't really comment to that.

Flex/Zone

I never know what to run... I really like man to man defense. I would try fastbreak-man to man and recruit high ath forward and speedy guards

I'd run whatever is your favorite, whatever you're best at, or if you understand your own recruiting tendencies I'd go with whatever you recruit best for. And focus on your long term ideas. I would NOT pick sets based on your current situation for this season alone. Because you'll suck the first season of a rebuild anyway.

If you're going to continue to keep walk ons each season, zone is a good choice. If you're going to fill your roster next season with all those extra resources, go press. If you like to focus on one on one matchups when game planning, go man. And then pick your offense based off similar thought process. I'm not sure this part matters but if you're in a full human conference, be aware if it's overwhelmed with a certain set. If everybody plays fastbreak/press, you'll be in constant battles for the recruits with green ATH/SPD/DEF/ST

wow that was long winded

I would do all my scouting early, find my targets, and whatever preferences the majority of my top targets have is what I’d run. If it’s going to be a waste of a season you should at least do whatever you can to give yourself and edge when recruiting for next season.

My favorite is fastbreak/press. If you can recruit the players for it, it's fun to watch guys put up stats scoring close to 100ppg. But I've found the best for the game now is motion/man. Man defense allows you to recruit a good defensive team and also take chances on higher level recruits with the risk of having to take walk-ons, because you don't need more than 10 players on your roster to compete.

As I'm still relatively new, I like to play stuff I haven't played before. I have a Motion/Press and a Flex/Zone team.

I think Triangle/Man is up next.
