For a team that I am managing for the first time I really messed up the budget and did not budget enough for the player salaries. I have transferred all of the money I can but I have a million dollars to last the rest of the year and my minors are not full. One of the things I am trying to figure out is the salaries of the minor league players. Does a AAA player permanently get their salary increased to $330k when they are promoted to the majors or do they need to be there a while? If you demote a player does their salary get cut or does it stay at the highest level they have been promoted to?

AAA players promoted to the majors immediately have their salaries increased to $327k for the remainder of the current season. If you send them back down the salaries stay at $327k, unless they stay in the minors and roll over to the next season in which case they will renew at 57k/59k/61k (depending on their service time).
If you demote a player their salary stays at the highest level they've been promoted to. If they started the season with a minor league contract, then for the current season. If they have a big league contract their salary remains as contracted.

One follow up question, if you release a minor league player do you save any money or is his salary guaranteed and you would have to pay it anyway?

I don't believe you are on the hook for minor league contracts, since they are essentially one year contracts.

know the transaction screen will show "contract renewal", but I don't think they are technically "under contract".

Salary is guaranteed.

Salary is guaranteed.
In this in regards to minor league salaries? I did not know that, but have never had to release minor leaguers due to budgetary issues.

Yeah, you still have to pay minor leaguers if you release them.

All salaries are guaranteed. The only out is if someone claims them on waivers. Claiming team takes over contract.

if you need more minor league bodies without much money, go to tryout camp menu & sign what you need from there. no bonuses, only salary.

I'm with vitamin C, I'm not sure this is true. If you release a minor leaguer and he signs somewhere else, it would be Double-Dipping if he stays on your cap and also adds onto the new team's cap...

For ML guys you are responsible for the entire salary minus the $327k minimum, so for minor leagues there's no differential. But like Vitamin I guess I don't do it often enough to feel confident. But it doesn't seem right

I went ahead and released a trash rookie ball pitcher .

He no longer appears in my Franchise Payroll Analysis at all.
Which would confirm that I am NOT on the hook for paying his remaining salary.

Maybe if he goes unclaimed on the wire I will assume some liability?

Will update this post when he clears.

He still does not appear in Franchise Payroll Analysis like a BL player would, BUT in the FA section, when you go to the negotiation screen his message reads:

"I'm already getting paid, so I'm just looking for a chance to play again! If signed, it'll only cost you a prorated amount of the league minimum for this year and any subsequent years I'm under contract. You're getting me dirt cheap!"

So that pretty much confirms that I AM still paying his salary.

When you release a minor league player, they will move to the big league section of the franchise payroll analysis. If someone claims him, there will be a proration.

Nice info. I found him there in the BL section.

I didn't have enough payroll to do end of season promotions. Had to trade for cash. Don't make the same mistake I did. Make sure to have enough cash to promote at the end of the year.

BTW, if you want to speed up that learning curve, join another league and run two teams. You can learn more from more exposure to other owners. Some world's are hush hush about how things work. If you are looking for a league to join, check out Glavine 300. There are a handful of openings right now.
