+5 Last Minute of Game Topic

Is it really the best defense in guarding the 3 point shot?

I was going up against a team, while we were playing 3-2 defense +5 in the last minute of the game go 4-5.

The average defense of the guys that were out there in the last minute had an average of defensive rating of 99.4. I had 4 100 D guys and 1 97. Average athleticism of 97.2.

The team I was playing was also 2-14 against a +2 up until that last minute.

Personally, I don’t like +5 at all under any circumstances. It doesn’t achieve that much, especially when you’re using 3-2, already the best defense against perimeter shooting.

To me, it’s a bigger story that CU’s great shooters were 2-14 until the final minute of the game. This seems to me more an issue of variance adjusting to the mean than anything.

It's a very small sample size. I'm not ready to wave the conspiracy flag just yet, but I do wonder if playing +5 is the best defense for stopping 3 point shooting? Could there be a programming error where the +5 is reading it as something else?

In my experience teams always shoot ridiculously well in the final minutes of a game, especially a close game. All of a sudden that player who has gone 1-10 makes consecutive 3's over a double team. I (and many others) think the engine has something built in that boosts late game performance, it seems specifically for teams who are down.

I think the extreme settings - plus five and minus five - are funky. And they probably should be - really extreme and odd settings with funky and somewhat unpredictable results.
