Most efficient way to scout internationals? Topic

This question I’m asking only for D2/D3 schools, I don’t have any D1 teams.

I am aware of the method of using the scouting service to find all the internationals, then assistant searching to scout them for cheaper.

I feel like there is a better method I’m not aware of, since the Top 100 recruits always get mixed in with the internationals, and I end up “wasting” a lot of those recruiting actions on players.

For D1 internationals, there’s no way around the top 100, other than to hand select a level at a time, which is cost prohibitive if you want any kind of pool of level 4 scouted players to select from. I stick with D2 internationals at D3, personally.

I never scout internationals for the purpose of recruiting them. Your whole budget is screwed if someone you're recruiting against decides to go all in and takes up a lot of your scouting cash.

I'm thinking what you want to do is 1)scouting service to get level 1. 2)Use assistant coach search, select division, and then only click on further scout discovered players and then select the distance to "any". I've never done it this way, so maybe someone else can chime in. but that would seem to be the most efficient method. You would have to do it before any other scouting actions.

That works great for D2 internationals. For the D1 pool, you’re getting all those top 100 players, which is the problem Wales is talking about.

Ah! I see! You want to try to recruit D-1 internationals? When you said you were only involved in coaching D2/D3 I thought you only meant internationals for those divisions. Yeah, no real way to get around it, in regards to not scouting the Top 100.

Yeah, just figured out what he was saying.

As someone who has lived off of D1 internationals at D2/D3 for a while, you basically have to commit to signing players at L2/L3 scouting and hope you get some breaks. And then if they don't work out have to be willing to cut them next year and try it again. Only way I have found to mitigate this somewhat is to try to get to 5-6 player classes at d3, and 4+ player classes at D2. At that point your money usually goes far enough to get a good pool beyond the top 100.

If you know what position you want you can recruit just that position. You'll get the 20 or so top 100 but you'll get the internationals at that position as well. Of course fss internationals only first then do assistant search.

If a D1 school has 3 scholarships and goes and unlocks all internationals to lvl 4, roughly how much money do they have left over for scouting on the main land?

Enough to unlock all recruits within 250 miles to lvl 4?

Nvm, found an answer from an old post.

"At highish D1 (like B and above) I normally FSS internationals first and then Assistant search scout. If you do it before camps and everything else, the Assisstant search will only get the top 100 recruits, the old guys who didn't sign last year, and the internationals. It's pretty cheap to do this (like under 20k)."

This is solid advice as well. I had one team that had like 6 PG/s and 5 C centers one year because i only ASSISTANT scouted those two positions,
