My starting 1B is set to be taken out in this exact situation for his defensive sub, WHO was still on the bench.
Instead my starter boots a groundball that leads to the game being lost. My closer gives up 3 Unearned R.

This kind of crap really makes me mad with this game. I had it set up to do this. And it didn't.

It's simple, really. The sim turned into John McNamara on you. It wasn't the sixth game of the World Series, was it?

Seriously, that whole thing traumatized New England for years. If not for 2004, 2007, and 2013, it still would.

Was the defensive sub below his auto-rest and therefore not eligible to appear in the game? This game strictly follows coded logic. If something happens that you didn't expect, it's typically because some other setting prevented it from happening. The game engine never goes rogue or makes "decisions" on its own and against your wishes.

What Stinky said. The Sim engine follows your settings, verbatim. Most likely below the min rest setting, or a hierarchy setting. What was your primary 1B replacement set at?

It is just as important to remove some players as defensive replacements as it is to set others as replacements...and set the lousy ones at very high settings.

Defense suffers far worse than offense as players fatigue. An 80% guy can still hit, but a fatigued fielder can't field a lick.

I had Managerial Settings to use Def Subs up by 2 runs or more after 8th. (I recently changed that to 1 Run if that helps because it was 4-2)

It actually happened again in another game, that my team ended up winning. But my starting SS- not supposed to be taken out for def subs, was at 100% was replaced with my backup SS, who was a PH and got a hit, then they kept him in the game at SS for the 9th. Didn't hurt us luckily, but he's a C-/A- and my Starter is a B+/A

Not sure why they did that either. It was 5-4 heading into the top of 9th and they took him out in favor of backup.

That 2nd game was entirely different and has nothing to do with defensive subs. You were tied 4-4 and Elberfield PH for Logan and drove in the go-ahead run. Hard to be upset about that, but it any case the decision to PH has nothing to do with the defensive replacement settings.

For the first one, I’m at a loss. send in a ticket and please post the response. In my 10+ years on this site, I have found the SIM algorithm for this stuff to be incredibly reliable. As posted above, there is like no evidence that it just randomly ignores settings.

Just so everyone knows, I'm not ranting or raving on here. No all caps or exclamation points. I was just legit curious and confused why that happened in that first game I mentioned, mainly because it cost the game.

Re: the second game. I never said I was upset about it, and I want to use him as a PH, I'm just not sure why they'd keep him in the game when he's not as good defensively at SS as my starter. But I see what you're saying about him being a PH and driving in the winning run, but he still shouldn't have replaced my starter at SS in that situation.

Actually, scratch that. I did use all caps in my initial post. Ha. Never mind.

Elberfield PH for your shortstop. so once that happened, he had to replace him in the field. if you don’t want that to happen the you have to uncheck the PH box next to Logan in the advanced settings.

Hahahaha. Okay, well forget about that second game situation. I submitted a ticket. I should have coffee before I check box scores and go on rants. Lesson learned.
