Re-Signing Likelihood Topic

Is there a rating that will indicate the likelihood of a potential free agent re-signing when his contract expires before he gets to the last year of his contract? I am new back to the game and I know there used to be one but I don't know all the things that have changed.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Make up. there are other variables as well.

I thought patience was primary...

Hmm I always thought make up I could be wrong. Arb'ing a guy 3 times is a no no if you want to sign them long term as well.

I usually ARB twice and then sign one year longer than asked for if I really like the guy. I always thought a 70 patience would indicate a very high likelihood of getting a player to re-sign but didn't know if that changed in my time off. Has anyone found this to be accurate still? I just traded for a guy with a high 60's patience with the hope I will be able to re-sign him long-term next season.

Patience. 98 and above if you want a player who'll always come back. I've had two 98 Patience players willing to stay after being arbed three times. I had a 96 Patience player walk after the third arb.

IMO anywhere between 60 and 98 there's a chance the player stays or walks. Maybe Makeup comes into it for older players; it's why mid-30s guys with 60ish Patience can be willing to re-sign.

It is patience, but be careful with the third arb. I had a guy with 98 patience and he demanded free agency after I signed him to a third arb. Had a guy with 52 patience who won't even re-sign the year before he is eligible for free agency. So, it is definitely the patience rating. But, I don't know the thresholds. Just be prepared for a player to demand free agency, if he has low patience. Especially if he is a comp pick type player.

I've been away from this for a couple years but in the past a 70+ patience would rarely test free agency, unless things like he got arbed three times or demoted to minors and used up options. Does anyone know if this is still somewhat accurate? I have this season and next with one guy at 75 patience and another at 98. They are my SP3 and SP2 and I would like to keep them after next season. I made trades to acquire them to win this season and next but also hoping they would re-sign for another 4 or 5 seasons after that.

I have found also when you trade for a player who’s in a contract year and won’t resign with current franchise but then is traded to a franchise with a better record he sometimes changes his toon and will resign. Doesn’t always work but had it work in my favor a few times.

Bumpbumpbump...

I have two very good prospects set to break into the majors this season. Both have extremely low patience - one is a 4, the other is a 0. How should I handle them to make sure I get the most years out of them before they bolt? Or should I just accept the fact that they are Scott Boras clients and will be gone after six years no matter what?

I got burned on that for the first time this season.
