You’re not obligated to care about the next guy, or setting your team up in any way. If you care about your conference mates, and don’t want to leave a dumpster fire of a program that will crash their conference RPI for years, there are ways to be thoughtful about it. In that case, my advice is to recruit mostly as normal. Doing nothing is not doing the next guy a favor, just be smart about the visits you do, don’t make visits (home or campus) for guys who aren’t going to sign until after you’re gone.
If D1, I recruit as normal, except I don’t do any visits for late signing guys, because if a human steps in, he loses most of the credit you got, and is out those visits you did.
If D2 or lower, I try to set the next guy up with a bunch of options, if possible. So again, it’s important to not do visits on anyone in the D1 pool, because they won’t even consider signing until you’re gone.
