A D2 coach has invested in an Early signer. D1 poacher decides he's stealing that recruit. Preferences are vaguely similar (as in, no major advantage for either, that would cause the recruit to prefer one school over the other based on a preference advantage. But not necessarily exactly equal either)

D2 Human is "basically" all-in. 1000+AP, 20 HV, 1 CV, start, and 15 minutes.

D1 Human only has enough AP in to unlock everything and drop a quick bomb.

D1 offers X HV on the last cycle of RS1 and sneaks into signing range and rips the heart out of D2 human and steals the recruit.

What is the value of X?

(Assume all other factors are common for everyday game play. The recruit is not a 5* that a D2 shouldn't have targeted in the first place. This isn't A+ UK coming after a C- D2 school. It's all just a common situation of everyday random poaching. Something like an A-ish D2 school vs a D-ish D1 school, for a recruit that is #60 at his position and worthy of that ranking)

Also.... random and poaching, written back to back. My two favorite controversial words in all of HD! Just thought i'd throw that in there!

Any DII coach who invests that much in RS1 deserves to lose the recruit and learn a valuable lesson about recruiting in 3.0. Value of "X" is "priceless".

The important thing to remember is that the D1 school doesn’t have to get ahead to have a 100% chance to sign the recruit. It only has to just barely sneak into signing range. So the answer to this question is that x is quite a bit lower than it would be if we’re talking about a D1 having a 100% chance to sign a late recruit in this scenario, in which the D1 would have to knock the all in D2 to moderate, which depending on their prestige may not even be possible.

I don’t know what the answer is, which kind of depends on what the preferences actually are. Pragmatically, if I’m the D1 school, I offer the scholarship, promise 15 minutes, do a CV, and see where I’m at. Then if still at moderate or lower, start doing a HV or two at a time. Since these two teams are fairly close in prestige, and we’re assuming neutral preferences, I’d guess it’d be something more than 5, but probably not a lot more.

Fake wardo..... you're a clown

mully.... i've done it many a times. And I just won 3 titles in a 2 month time span. With 5 players on one roster +800 ovr. Things are working out fine for me.

shoe.... at the end, you added a fairly decent answer. So thank you. BUT..... we're talking a one cycle bomb. Not a couple cycle feeling out process

anyone else have input?

I didn’t answer that way because I don’t advise doing it that way, especially now that the considering list is fixed. As the D1, you have no way of knowing what the D2 has invested. Why waste visits on a “bomb”, when all you have to do is sneak in? I suppose if it’s the last day of RS1 and you have one shot at an early signee before RS2 opens him up to D2 rivals... and in that case, I think the answer is probably something like 8-12 HV, without promises or CV preceding it.

I suspect no one knows *exactly* what the answer is, unless they are involved in collusive activities with other owners or accounts.

I completely understood your response. And you're right, its not the best way for a D1 to go about it. But it happens often. I'll be on day 6 of RS1, and the 5am cycle, a D1 human shows up for the first time, and steals the recruit at 11pm. So im curious what those D1s are doing

Now, i've never had that happen to a recruit I was all in on. But this was just a hypothetical question. More about the value of a D2 all in. And less about the timing of when it happens. I just used the "Early signer and RS1 deadline" as a timing thing for this question

Thank you TJ for the most relevant answer yes. Just a quick estimation/assumption/guess. Just asking for a ballpark number.

Thank you arfy for publicly sparing me from aggravation. But we both know privately you're going to take my guys and enjoy the stress it causes me, only to cut them later because you really didn't want them in the first place.

that's what friends are for!
