Not particularly good at this but will gave it a shot. At least it will help promote discussion. My overall take is that Lago Di Garda is not as good as I had thought and the Central Division is going to be a powerhouse.
PACIFIC
Charleston Battery. Maurice Lucas 4-5, DeMarcus Cousins 5-6, Steph Curry 6-7, Alex English 7-8, Patrick Ewing 8-9, Kobe Bryant 9-10. A little heavy on usage and Kobe, Ewing, English and Cousins are going to be competing for the ball. Efg% is not up to par with most of the other teams but these guys do get to the line. The assets going into point production, this is not an elite defensive team and do not see enough production off the bench. High on TOs and PFs. Playoffs: No.
Paul Robeson: Kawhi Leonard 4-5, Tim Duncan 5-6, Chris Paul 6-7, Dennis Rodman 7-8, Moses Malone 8-9, Oscar Robertson 10-11. Strong up front with a nice balance of rebounding and scoring Malone, Rodman and Duncan but not enough of either off the bench. A pretty good defensive team. Light on the 3s. Oscar is mostly a volume player and 20% of the cap invested in him is not a particularly good omen. Not nearly enough Wilt. Playoffs: Marginal.
South Broad Street. Kevin Garnett 4-5, Steph Curry 5-6, Dennis Rodman 6-7, Hassan Whiteside 7-8, Giannis Antetokounmpo 8-9, Julius Erving 9-10. Not enough assists from the starting 5 and efg% of the primary scorers in Dr. J and Giannis is not what it needs to be. Not enough 3s to better balance this inside scoring team and a little short on assists. Garnett , Ewing and Calderone provides for a pretty decent bench and are actually more efficient than the starting 5. Playoff: No.
Stairway to Heaven. Clyde Drexler 3-4, Bill Walton 5-6, Donyell Marshall 6-7, John Stockton 7-8, Amar'e Stoudemire 8-9, Michael Jordan 9-10. This Stockton-Jordan led team is well balanced and pretty efficient. Not enough rebounding on either side of the floor as Walton and Mutombo are the only true rebounders who play substantial minutes with the others notably weak in this department. This team hits almost 40% of its 3s. a large % of 3s, almost 40%, but a few more would have been be helpful. The bench is deep, but again, short on rebounding. Playoffs: Marginal
Supreme Pizza. Magic Johnson 3-4, Joakim Noah 5-6, Bill Walton 6-7, Larry Nance 7-8, Chris Paul 8-9, David Robinson 10-11. Very good defensive team led by Nance and Robinson that avoids sending people to the line. Plenty of good assist guys led by Chris Paul, which should pump up the teams average efg%. Low TO rate considering the high number of assists. The bench can score points but a little short on rebounding on both ends. Playoffs: Marginal
Turbine Cancer Co.: Marcus Camby 3-4, Dennis Rodman 5-6, Kevin McHale 6-7, Chris Paul 7-8, Kyle Lowry 5-6, Wilt Chamberlain 11-12.This is an excellent, well-balanced team that seems to hit all the marks. Balanced scoring with just enough usage from the starting 5. The high assist rate should pump up the already good efg%. With Wilt and Rodman, The team rebounds well on both ends. Low TOs and PFs. Adequate number of 3s. The bench is solid and does a good job replicating the starting 5. Playoffs: Yes
MIDWEST
Ascendation Nation. Hassan Whiteside 3-4, Roy Tarpley 5-6, Jason Kidd 6-7, Charles Barkley 7-8, Dwight Howard 8-9, Chris Paul 9-10 This Wilt-Lebron high scoring team is impresses with a very good efg%. May have a little more usage than necessary, probably at the expense of defense which is okay in that it keeps fouls low, but not a strength of the team. This team has a balanced offense with multiple 3 pt shooters led by Klay Thompson. The bench is efficient with a passable defense, but a little short on rebounding. Look for some high scoring games. Playoffs: Yes
Chuck It. Marcus Camby 4-5, Al Horford 5-6, Dwight Howard 6-7, LeBron James 7-8, Anfernee Hardaway 8-9, Charles Barkley 9-10. Led by Lebron and Barkley, this is another highly efficient team that will put points on the board. A heavy reliance on Dwight Howard and to a lesser degree, Barkley, to do the rebounding. Could be a weakness on this team. The defense is so-so, although PFs are pretty low. The bench is solid and balanced and may actually rebound the ball better that the starters. Playoffs: Marginal
GOGO 4style. Jusuf Nurkic 4-5, Mike Conley 5-6, Sean Elliott 6-7, Amar'e Stoudemire 7-8, Grant Hill 8-9, Hakeem Olajuwon 9-10. Led by Hakeem, this is another high usage team that will suppress the point totals for each of the 5 starters. The team will score points and a lot of the starters will get to the line regularly, but there just are not enough shots in a game to optimize the strengths of these players. The defense is marginal. The bench will contribute points and rebounds pretty well but their defense is inconsistent across the floor. Playoffs: No
Monstars. Dennis Rodman 3-4, Tyson Chandler 5-6, Kevin Durant 6-7, Kawhi Leonard 5-6, Steph Curry 8-9, Andrei Kirilenko 3-4. This team is balanced and well-constructed. Just about everyone shoots the ball efficiently and Durant is the perfect SF fit between Gilmore/Chandler and Stockton/Curry. Plenty of, and good 3-point shooting (40%+) will make this team tough to defend. The defense is solid throughout and the bench offers a nice balance of offense and rebounding. Playoffs: Yes
Sweet 16: Gerald Wallace 4-5, Rudy Gobert 5-6, Steve Nash 6-7, Dwight Howard 7-8, Deron Williams 7-8, Shaquille O'Neal 9-10. This is another well-constructed team that maximizes efficiency and has just the right amount of usage. Team defense is not outstanding, but adequate. Good inside-outside offense in Shaq and Deron/Nash who provide just enough 3s. Bench is so-so, and may not provide enough offense to keep the team competitive when the starters are sitting. Playoffs: Marginal
Zombie Sonics. Dennis Rodman 4-5, Mark Jackson 5-6, Ben Simmons 6-7, Ben Wallace 7-8, Anthony Davis 8-9, Victor Oladipo 6-7. This is another of those very high assist teams that should pump up its otherwise adequate shooting % and generally optimize the offense. The inside defense is first rate in Davis, Wallace and Rodman (for the 24 minutes or so he is in there) and everyone can rebound. The bench is good. Very efficient, rebounds okay across the board, and can hold up on the offensive side. Mark Jackson teams are generally underrated. Playoffs: Yes.
CENTRAL
Super Friends. Wilt Chamberlain 4-5, Marcus Camby 5-6, Kawhi Leonard 6-7, Shaquille O'Neal 7-8, Magic Johnson 8-9, Draymond Green 5-6. This is a deep, thoughtfully drafted team. Efficient-enough offensively and should pull down a lot of defensive rebounds as well as minimize turnovers. A good sprinkling of defense-oriented players throughout the roster should compensate for any minimal shortage of usage. The bench, led by Wilt, can get boards, defend and should score just enough to keep the team in the game. Playoffs: Yes.
No Tapout. Willie Cauley-Stein 4-5, Andrei Kirilenko 5-6, Chauncey Billups 6-7, David Robinson 7-8, Rick Barry 8-9, Larry Bird 9-10. Lots of scoring from this Bird-Barry team but low on efficiency because Barry takes the bulk of the team’s shots. The other issue is that there are just not enough offensive rebounds as well as rebounding in general. Otherwise, the starting 5 defense is among the better ones. The bench is pretty good offensively although the overall bench defense is on the weak side. Playoffs: No.
Kentucky Colonels. Tyson Chandler 3-4, Clint Capela 5-6, Otto Porter 6-7, Steph Curry 7-8, Scottie Pippen 7-8, Wilt Chamberlain 12-13. Another well-constructed team that is offensively geared as you must choose to defend Wilt and his efg.% or an avalanche of 3’s shot at a 41% clip. The Defense is pretty much average but they’re not going to allow many 2nd shots because of their very good defensive rebounding. The bench also rebounds the ball well although bench scoring could be a challenge depending on how minutes are distributed. Playoffs: Yes.
Half a Banana Boat: Kevin Durant 2-3, Chris Paul 5-6, Tom Boerwinkle 6-7, Kawhi Leonard 7-8, Scottie Pippen 8-9, LeBron James 9-10. Another deep team with adequate enough efg.% and nearly elite defense. The offense, which is guard-based should be helped with the high number of assists that cut across the roster. More than enough 3s. The front lines rebound well on both sides of the floor. The bench does a good job of replicating the style of the starting 5. Great team name. Playoffs: Yes
Could’ve Been Worse. Steph Curry 4-5, Dwight Howard 5-6, Hassan Whiteside 6-7, Jason Kidd 7-8, Shaquille O'Neal 8-9, J.R. Smith 3-4. A strong team with elite level offensive efficiency throughout the roster. Defense should be fine. Lots of usage on the team and the challenge will be proper balance between he starters and the bench. Shaq’s offense will be complemented by a parade of 3s which should make this team a defensive challenge. Playoffs: Yes
12 Angry Men. John Stockton 4-5, Klay Thompson 5-6, DeAndre Jordan 6-7, Andre Drummond 7-8, Rudy Gobert 8-9, Michael Jordan 10-11. The trio of Gobert, Drummond and DeAndre make for outstanding rebounding on both sides of the ball. This team is close to being competitive to others in this very tough division but the offense runs through MJ, so the efficiency is not quite up to par with the others. Minimal number of turnovers. The defense is decent but on an overall level does not seem to match up with other teams in this very tough division. The bench on the whole, does not impress. Playoffs: Marginal.
EAST
Tongue Tied and Twisted. Andre Drummond 3-4, Manu Ginobili 5-6, Nikola Jokic 6-7, DeAndre Jordan 7-8, Michael Jordan 8-9, Kevin Garnett 10-11. Despite the presence of Drummond and Deandre Jordan this team falls short with ORB% because of the diminished playing time of Drummond. In an offense that runs through a MJ-Garnett dominated offense, which is not particularly efficient, the lack of ORB% becomes an issue. On the plus side the defense is good throughout and the bench is deep and productive on both side of the ball. Playoffs: Marginal
Racine Cars. T Kyrie Irving 4-5, Nikola Jokic 5-6, Bobby Jones 6-7, Draymond Green 7-8, John Stockton 8-9, Kevin Garnett 9-10. his team has a DNA unlike any other team in the league. No less than 6 PGs and only one center is on the roster. There is the obvious rebounding issue but D is pretty good, mostly for the increased steals. The 3s are surprisingly average for the league. Statistically, this team should average an off the chart 49 assists per game. Can’t happen but they should be exciting. Playoffs: No.
No One Over 20PPG? Kyle Korver 4-5, John Stockton 5-6, Tyson Chandler 6-7, Magic Johnson 7-8, DeAndre Jordan 8-9, Serge Ibaka 6-7. Another interesting team where the scoring is spread over the roster. This team is focused primarily on good defense, and balanced scoring. However, the 2 highest scorers, Magic and Wall, are the least efficient players on the team. Not quite enough rebounding or usage will hurt this team. Playoffs: No.
Harden The Paint. Chris Andersen 3-4, Shaquille O'Neal 5-6, Manu Ginobili 6-7, James Harden 7-8, Elton Brand 8-9, Dwight Howard 9-10. This is a team that carries a lot of usage so sharing the ball will be a challenge. Efficiency is reasonably good and they will get to the line. Solid defensively with lots of blocks but a little high with the PFs. The bench is solid on both side of the ball and contributes in all aspects of the game. Playoffs: Marginal
No More Tiers. Rudy Gobert 4-5, Hakeem Olajuwon 5-6, Magic Johnson 6-7, Kevin Durant 7-8, Larry Bird 8-9, Karl Malone 9-10. This is a solid, balanced team with maybe a little too much usage and competition for the ball. The high number of assists may complement the high usage. We’ll see. The efg.% is solid throughout the roster and the defense is more than adequate. The bench is not strong and may have some difficulty holding its own against some of the stronger benches in the league. Playoffs: Marginal.
Lago Di Garda (my team). Hassan Whiteside 3-4, Roy Tarpley 5-6, Jason Kidd 6-7, Charles Barkley 7-8, Dwight Howard 8-9, Chris Paul 9-10This is a reasonably efficient team that rebounds the ball on both sides of the court pretty well. The better than average number of assists should increase offensive production on a team with just about adequate usage. Overall defense is competitive but the bench is not deep. Playoffs: Marginal
