Ok HD historians, I recently played a team twice in the regular season, then in the conference tournament, then in the national tournament. That's fairly rare but I know not unheard of. The part I've never personally done before is that I won all four. So, who has beaten the same team 4 times in a season? I'm sure it's happened before, just trying to get an idea of how rare it is. Also kind of strange, coming into the season my record against this outstanding coach was 7 - 20.

In Rupp, my Arizona squad played UCLA four times just a couple season ago. Lost all four. The final time was in OT in the Final Four.
Most likely the two best teams in Rupp for that season. No doubt which was better.

Unless I'm mistaken i beat Syracuse 4 times with my Seton Hall team during one of my championship seasons in Phelan.

i believe one year in d3 rupp i played my conf mate for the 4th time in the title game, but we definitely split some games. i also recall one year i played a conf mate for the CT and NT finals, winning all of our matches that year, but it was the other division so we only played 3x. i still thought it was pretty cool (tark d2 season 29). i recall playing teams 4x a couple other times but can't remember if i ever won all 4.

I beat the same team 4 times with CSU LA in Smith (edit), the last to win the NC (sorry phalla!)

wait - i think i found it - i knew in the GLV i had played a conf mate not only 4 times, but culminating in the title game. d2 tark 45. i was 15-1 in conf play (SIUE GLV), CT and NT champ. and mercyhurst was 7-2 in neutral, and was NT runner up - that means 5-1 for the NT, and 2-1 for the CT with a bye right - so that has to mean the title game loss? its not impossible my 1 conf loss was to them, they were 12-4, and i *feel* like i had beaten a conf mate for the 4th time in the NT finals which i thought was pretty neat - really for them more than me - pretty good on the other guy (grapevine) that he overcame 3 losses to me to still be seeded high and make the NT finals.

edit: our other division had a 15-1 final 4 team and im 95% positive that is who gave me my one loss. the team i beat in the finals for the 4th time beat the other division's team in the final 4. that was one of our better years, this was before the seeding change when 3 final 4 teams was among the most impressive finishes for a conf, when 8 elite 8 teams (jealous!!!) was unthinkable. i still can't believe those guys pulled it off, its so ridiculous. im glad its cal CAA from tark who did it though - we had a long tark rivalry for a really long time - it was pretty awesome to be in d2 tark those days. two of the better conferences in the history of the game competing for years on end, those were good times! i like to think the season after season of us kicking their butt helped give them the resiliency to eventually capture all elite 8 spots after our conf had lost the battle with time =)

what i actually always wondered is, who has played their conf mate 4 times, winning the first 3, and then losing in the NT finals? because that would be kinda rough. i feel like i saw it happen to someone in the NT, but thinking it was more like e8/f4 than NC game.

gil, i lost in the championship game with that same CSU LA team to a conference mate from the other division that I had beaten twice. I was undefeated going into that game too... I'll get you someday, paland! lol

i feel like i must have been in phelan at some point because what you are talking about all sounds pretty familiar. i feel like i've seen other people where i wasn't involved go win the NC with a 4th game over a conf mate - maybe someone else - but it can't have happened that many times? but i also don't think i ever played in phelan so who knows. CSULA just seems too familiar, its too noteworthy in my brain... maybe they were good in tark at one time or something.

That would be me gil, at UCLA (Phelan) back in season 127 vs Arizona (tkimble). We went 16-0 thru conference play, won the CT title over Arizona in the finals, met him again in the NT F4 with a spot in the NCG on the line and if I remember correctly, either lost on a late basket and/or in OT.

I'm playing Ohio State with my Northwestern squad in Crum tonight in the Final Four. We already met twice in the regular season, in the conference tourney final, and now in the Final Four. I somehow won the first 3 games..... Not feeling great about the 4th....
