What's the most you've ever spent on a recruit? Topic

I don't have some over the top story about how I chased a guy down after spending $30,000 on a D-II recruit. Just wondering what kind of stories you guys have. If you remember the amount or how many contacts you needed to land (or lose) the recruit I'm here for it. For context, please add what division you were in.

Spent about 40,000 on a player in d2 . It was a long time ago so I dont remember the position(I think RB). In d2 that is a massive amount, so it might have been before they cut what you could keep from your budget after recruiting down to 25%.

Similar amount at D2. At D3 I have spent $15-16k at least too many times....lol...

I just list a recruit last season at D3, dropped a similar amount. It was dumb and I lost....

I lost around 50-60k on a RB recruit in D2. Lost him to Valdosta. He was a very high WE and STL recruit that was already #1 in his class to start. He ended up setting some D2 records I think. Can’t remember which world

I think in Div 2 the most I've spent is in the 30-40k range on a player. And I make sure I win those!!! lol. It has been quite some time since I have been in Div 1A, but I am sure I have gone into the 100k range on a few players, and some of those I have lost which is a big **** off!!! lol. I have never played Div 1A with the big war chests of the past, so I am sure there were some battles getting close to $1 mill or more on some players.

70K I had a lot of $$$ to burne. I was at PITT at the time and I needed a Great QB and I got him. I won the NC with him in his JR season. At the time players were leaving to go pro and he did. I like to think that he would have won the NC next season. He did go into the record book for YARDs and TDs.
Did me spending 70K hurt my team? No. Like I said I had $$$ to burn at the time. I would never do that again.

135k in 1A. Still didn't get the recruit.

I dropped 36k on a STL player many seasons ago in D3. Needless to say as good as that player was...he wasn't worth half my budget that particular season. It was a learning process at that point in time. I'm a little smarter with my cash flow these days.

If we're talking about D1-A, I spent about $120K on a recruit, and lost him. I think bigpoppa's story about 50-60K in D2 probably takes the cake.

If I knew how to post a screen shot here I'd do it. I jumped an LB from the Northeast that had Penn St/Rutgers/No Carolina on him with my Oklahoma team +/- 10 seasons ago. I'm an LB addict and his ratings were too sexy to pass up. I dropped $190k on him and never led one cycle. Oh well.... it was fun lighting that cash on fire.

320k in D1 way back in the day when we could carry over all our recruiting dollars. I was at Memphis and had to spend that much to get a local guy away from Alabama.

Wow, that's huge!
I once spend 10% of that when I signed a D2 after spending over 30k.
I once spent 25k and lost out to another team.
This was my first D1-AA recruiting cycle and I spent 15k on 5 recruits and the other 17 averaged 10k.
220k for 22 recruits was fun, and no one stole any recruits yet, with 15 kins til signing. I have plenty left to battle but hopefully I'll just save 25% for next season

Far less sexy story than some of you guys here, but I dropped like $55k on a QB about 8-9 seasons ago at Michigan State and if I recall correctly for all that, I only got him yellow for one or two cycles before Notre Dame and Minnesota took me out. If I remember correctly he was from North Dakota and ended up signing with Minnesota which was the only school close to him. Typically, I don't spend a lot of money on recruits because I've never been at a school long enough to build up any reserves.

I've spent $100,000+ on DII recruits a few times, but I go back to the good ol' days of war chests.
