The draft has just completed, and the Phillies are set for a rebuilding year and a strong 2001. they received the 2nd pick: P Mark Buehrle, who had the highest career WAR in the draft. The long-running Real Life Progressive League is looking for a new owner for the Philadelphia Phillies. Buehrle matches up well with Kerry Wood and Wade Miller, who are just starting their careers, plus Kip Wells, who has strong years in 2002-2003. The Phillies' lineup is solid, including C Charles Johnson, 1B Fred McGriff, SS Mark Grudzielanek (9 more years), and OF Juan Gonzalez. With the addition of Buehrle, this team is positioned well to compete in 2001.
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 2000, IF Michael Young, 3B Joe Crede, 3B Morgan Ensberg and some others started their careers -- but they are not WIS eligible until 2001 or later. Most years there are a few top 10 picks that are prospects, but not in 2000. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the 1st round (meaning someone who first played in MLB in 2000, but wasn't WIS eligible), you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 2000 season, and a DH is used in the AL.
