How do you set up a pitcher to be your # 1 and # 3 starter.

Only if you run a 2 man rotation.

if you want 1 starter to start 80, and 2 other guys to start 40 each, set as Starter 1/Starter 2A/Starter 2B

Tandems are for when you want a guy to start but perhaps not go deep in a game, then the "B" guy comes in next. A good use for 100-200 IP/162 guys, and/or pitchers with low IP/9 numbers.

I can’t figure out how to change the image size cuz it defaults at 2048 at length.

But I run a lot of

Starter #1
Starter 2a
Starter 2b

rotations

I run into an issue in theme leagues where I want to do something like 1/2a/2b/3a/3b - has anybody figured out a way to do this without manually changing it every day? I have a similar issue in some themes where I want to use multiple tandems, especially where guys have 100+ IP but <5 ip/g.

For instance I'm building a team now where I want this rotation
313 IP Starter 1
174 IP/171 IP Starter 2a/2b
182 IP/125 IP Tandem 3a/3b
Tthere's no "set it and forget it" sort of managing with this as far as I can tell...

Unless you have tons of innings you'll probably need to tinker. I've tried as many as 5 tandems, but the pen wasn't deep enough to allow me to set and forget.

these are in themes where getting IP isn't the issue, but getting high quality starter IP is difficult, so you have to get creative (the above is for the $120mm random 5yr window theme)

I'm effectively trying to have a 3 man rotation of 313, 345, 307 with that above plan...but it doesn't let you just set it up like that, so i have to keep moving the starter slots around. i guess i could do this, and try to stagger it that only one of my 2/3 starters are above their % rest threshold for each turn:
313 starter 1
174 starter 2
171 starter 3
182/125 tandem 4a/4b

with auto rest I think this would end up looking pretty much like the 3 man rotation from a usage perspective

I move my pitchers around in my rotations frequently regardless, because I usually want to maximize the innings of the best pitchers. I have found that tandems do require more shuffling than normal, because you can't do this:

Starter 1
Tandem 2A/2B
Starter 3

It would be nice if you could, but you end up having to rest that 3rd guy to get him out of the way of the tandem.

You pretty much have to draft the maximum of 13 pitchers to attempt a 4 or 5 tandem rotation, or even a 1/2a/2b/3a/3b. There are enough instances of where Sparky goes to the bullpen early and often. I pretty much try to stick to a set $/IP and I don't waste money on innings, except for progressives, so I run into my share of fatigue issues. To attempt something risky rotation wise I suggest adding an inning eater. And you will probably still need to tinker, or lower your fatigue settings and pitch counts, as well as making most or all pitchers available early in games.

There are some good 120-180ish inning guys out there that are relatively cheap yet effective, so tandems are a good way to utilize their value.

2005 Halladay
1906 Patterson
1990 Tudor

are just a few...Depends on how low/high $/IP you wanna shop. I like the cheap Rube Kroh, and I've gotten almost 30 wins from '89 Garrelts as a B tandem guy...

I smell a theme idea.. We could set a maximum # of starts for each starter, forcing Sparky to start 6 or more different guys. Or set a max of 190 innings for pitchers when drafting...we might have to do a 16 team league, if interest is thin...ideas?

THANKS everyone.

And Doc, I'm in for the theme.....
