3 YEAR FIXER UPPER (GM league) full Topic

You've been hired as the GM of a team that isn't awful but needs some work. You have just signed a 3 year deal to run this club, and the owner expects results...
You don't get a blank check to spend, spend, spend. You will get a limited influx of cash, so you need to spend it wisely...

You will set up shop with a team hovering around .500. There are some pieces in place, but you have holes to fill, upgrades that need to be made.

We are going to run this for 3 overlapping seasons, starting seasons 2 & 3 once the proceeding season reaches its midway point. That will give us time to get our next roster ready. We will be doing some free agent shopping, details below...

Over the next few seasons you will get to drop 6 players each season before the Winter Meetings take place. There you will get to sign 6 free agents, and stay under the salary cap while doing so. Just to be clear, you drop 6 in season 1, add 6 free agents. In season 2 you will drop 6 more from the original roster, add 6 more free agents. At that point you will still have 13 original members. After dropping 6 more prior to season 3, you will finish season 3 with 7 of the 25 that you began this with...the originals don't age. A '67 Philly stays a '67 Philly all 3 seasons. Got it?

In this league there are 6 season specific teams that are being used(listed below). Each division will have 4 owners each running their version of them. (Example- the NL East will consist of 4 owners each running a 1967 Phillies team.)

So here's what you do: You sign up for which team you want to run (I pick last). You will load your 25 man roster as-is into the draft center. Then you decide which 6 players get dropped. Then we enter into how we acquire our 6 replacements, our free agents.

How free agency works: We will borrow Donburgh's potion from his Exclusive Ownership theme. We will all submit a list of 6 free agents that we want. As commish i will first send my list to 3 other owners, then give the rest of you the all clear to submit yours to me via sitemail. Once I have received them from everyone I will post the results. Any players selected by more than one owner are immediately blacklisted, and you must repick. You only take possession of those players you exclusively selected. We will repeat the process until everyone has 6 exclusive free agents.

This blacklist we have created begins with all 25 original players from all 6 teams. They will never be eligible as free agents. To that we add all players selected as free agents, as well as those canceled out by the free agent process. The list will continue to grow up to and including Season 3's free agency period.

The 6 teams i have selected are by no means identical. They range from a base salary of $60-70M. Some have more holes, some are in need of innings or at bats. The quality and quantities of pitching and offense vary. Not big variances, and I think all can compete here. And depending on your cap space, as well as the amount of additional space you can create with your 6 drops, some will have more money than others to use to add free agents.

Stadium rule: in season 1 you must use the same stadium your team actually used that season. For seasons 2 and 3 you must use a different park each time. Note: '66 Cardinals switched stadiums mid season, therefore in Season 1 they may use either Sportsman's III or Busch I.

Free agents 1940-2019 only, and only those not already blacklisted. Once you acquire a free agent they are to remain on your roster till the end of season 3, and you must use a different season of their career for each season you roster them. Example: SS Joseph Green, has WIS eligible seasons 1950-1954. If you use his 1952 season on your Season 1 roster, you cannot use his '52 season in Seasons 2 or 3. You must use a different season of his each season. You will need to make sure you can fit your 25 players under each season's salary cap...plan ahead.
Note: you are allowed to acquire a free agent that played part of his career prior to 1940, but you may not use those pre-1940 seasons.

I must ask that if you sign up for this that you have every intention of playing all 3 seasons. It would be quite difficult to find someone to take over a team midstream...

Season 1 salary cap $92M
Season 2 salary cap $96M
Season 3 salary cap $100M

No DH
No WW, AAA, trades, clones

Admin will kick in $10 prize money per season. We will award $15/$10/$5 to the Top 3 cumulative regular season win totals.

I will award each season's $12.95 theme founder credit to the WS winners.

Can the Free Agent requests you select each season be upgrades over the players you cut ?

For example, cut Dave McNally, and then try to get him at a different season of his career ?

I will jump in with the '63 Orioles no matter what the answer is to my question.

Welcome...

The players who won't be eligible as free agents will be any and all of the original rostered players from all 6 teams, as well as any previously selected free agents, and players canceled out in free agency that are selected by multiple owners. All will go onto a blacklist that continues to grow up to the season 3 free agency period. Keep in mind you also can't use any pre-1940 seasons for free agents.
