Jack Leiter, Al Leiter's son, throws five no-hit innings, strikes out 12 in debut with Vanderbilt

Leiter was selected in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Yankees but elected to honor his commitment to Vandy

Jack went to my high school so I've followed him closely. He has electric stuff - tops out mid 90s and steadily 92-93. His dad would have been unstoppable with an arm like that (Jack is a righty though)! Great slider in the mid 80s which is something NJ high school sees about once a decade. He would've been a fringe 1st round pick if he didn't say he was near 100% to go to Vandy. The rub is he's probably somewhere around 6' and while his mechanics are terrific, he throws with a LOT of effort. I'll be rooting for him but we'll see how he develops!

Honestly his profile is a lot like Rick Porcello, another Vandy commit from NJ who WAS drafted in the first round. We faced Porcello when he was just a soph and he was just on another level - but we beat them (he didn't start and came in down 5-0 already but who's counting?)!

I arrived just ahead of the shrubbery, one wagon behind the flies. Dirt was being unloaded...the landscape didn't exist yet.
