The New Dynamic Progressive League started with the 1885 season a few years ago with the mission of following MLB history season by season, following historical expansion and format. We started off as a 16 team league in 1885, successfully held a contraction draft after our 1891 season, then played as a single 12 team league before conducting another contraction draft prior to our 1900 season.

We are now approaching the 1901 season, and the arrival of the American League. Five of the eight AL franchises have been taken by previous league owners. We still have three unclaimed franchises.

Those franchises are :

Chicago (AL) sinatra
Cleveland
Milwaukee/St. Louis* stptom

*The Milwaukee franchise played only the 1901 season in Milwaukee before moving to St. Louis to become the Browns. The owner taking this franchise may choose either city as their home. The owner may remain in Milwaukee beyond 1901 if the owner chooses.

The AL Expansion Draft is set to begin on June 12.

The draft order for the AL Expansion Draft and 1901 Rookie and Free Agent Draft are preset for the AL franchises. Starting with 1902, draft order will be set as follows :

* World Series winner gets the final pick of the first round.
*Picks 1-3 are determined by a weighted draft lottery. The system is set to weigh against teams winning top picks in the last two drafts, and slightly against repeat participants. Details of the lottery format are available on request, and are posted on the league's Organizational Outline.
*Picks 4-15 are determined by a ratio of the team's rank by payroll to their rank by win percentage. This system rewards winning efficiently, and discourages tanking at any position.

*Picks for rounds 2 and on are determined by win percentage.
