Confederate Flag Topic

Today, NASCAR banned the confederate flag at races. Good! It shouldn't be banned by the fed, but private enterprise has every right to restrict it.

I would LOVE for someone to defend that traitorous, loser flag.

A couple days ago, someone drove by my house in a pickup with a Trump flag, a USA flag, and a Confederate flag in the bed.

I can't believe they can't see the irony.

It's about time the democrats put their racist flag to bed.

Glad we can agree on something, Doug. **** that flag.

If you love the Confederacy, you hate America. Simple as that.

I also agree with this take

Did they ban Beauregard's Battle Flag or the Stars and Bars?

They didn't specify, which I assume means both.

That's why I asked because that is a dangerous assumption.

There are actually four confederate flags. 1sr National looks like the state flag of Georgia except with a circle of stars in the inner corner (Stars and Bars.) 2nd National is an all-white flag (no symbolism there) with PGT Beauregard's battle flag replacing the star circle. 3rd National adds a large red perpendicular stripe to the outer edge of the 2nd National. Beauregard's battle flag (the commonly-called "confederate flag" with an elongated X with the stars inside the X perimeter) was never an official flag...much like the Gadsen fllag (Don't Tread on Me) was never an official USA flag

Depending on how NASCAR worded it, it may not ban all confederate flags...just the battle flag. Even if they did word it properly, people will simply switch to the state flags of Georgia and Mississippi. The point, as well as the image, will essentially be the same. I grew up in the only CSA state that did not lose it's Capital to a military attack. It was all state curriculum required study back in the day so don't blame me.

I don't really disagree. Mississippi should definitely change its flag. I don't see how this is dangerous. If they need to write up an official policy to ban them all, I would be fine with that as well. Of course, this is mostly about the symbolism.

My hope would be that the losers who would otherwise fly the confederate flag would just switch to a Swastika or other white nationalist flag instead. Don't hide behind your "Southern pride" bullshit and show what you are really about.

If I could make a tasty dip out of the tears of all the outraged rednecks I'd have to go out for chips!

Six more days and there might be another one. I think the results might be a little different this time though.

To be fair, he's from New York.

Juneteenth is just straight up not a thing in the mid-Atlantic. I'd literally never even heard of it until college. It was only recognized as a holiday in the state of New York in 2004. So I can sympathize with a viewpoint that it's not a significant date. It feels very much like a made-up holiday to me, not because of what it celebrates but because it just appeared out of thin air from my perspective. None of which is to say that it shouldn't be celebrated, considered as a potential Federal holiday, etc., simply that I understand why someone wouldn't think about it a whole lot until the past few weeks.
