(1964 / 1984) Free Agency Auction (Progressive)
***************************************************
I’ve played in a couple of Free Agency Auction Leagues many moons ago (eman7400 ran one for 12 + years that was a lot of fun) I thought that they were an interesting & more realistic progressive experience with bidding & Free Agency & wondered why there weren’t more Leagues like them. I’ve also come to enjoy smaller draft pools & better teams in schwarze’s (4 x 4) drafts or other smaller draft pool Leagues (CLWECW runs a Triple-Era Progressive currently in season 62 & dspahlinger’s 7-year Itch & Triple Play come to mind amongst others) So here’s the deal:
The Great Divide:
Upon Signup (or anytime thereafter) pick a Season - 1964 (or) 1984.
We will have (2) separate Draft Auctions of 12 teams each, an 1964 Auction & an 1984 Auction.
The Money:
Everyone will have $100 million dollars of Auction money to bid on 10 Rounds of Players.
The (12) 1964 teams will bid on the 1964 Players only.
The (12) 1984 teams will bid on the 1984 Players only.
The Bidding:
I will alphabetically divide the 1964 & 1984 players into 10 groupings by Position & Starting Pitchers & Relief Pitchers.
The minimum bid per player is $100,000. Please Only bid in $100,000 increments.
Bidding will be held via Silent Auction sitemail ending @ 8pm (EST) each day. I will have all of the leading / winning bids sorted, posted, & sitemailed to everyone every evening by 9pm (EST).
Each player will have up to (3) days of bidding per player. (the Auction will last 30 days)
Each player grouping will have an opening day bid, a 2nd day chance to raise the bid by any other team(s) and a final 3rd day bidding to decide who wins that player & for how much. Should a player Not receive a higher day 2 bid, the day 1 bid wins. Should a player Still be tied after 3 days of bidding, a 4th day of bidding will be held Only between any of the tied teams. In a rare instance if a tied player is Not upbid on the 4th day by either owner/team, that player will go back into free agency in the Next grouping.
* FYI – to keep me honest & keep the integrity of the bidding process I will send my Next Day’s bids to the first (2) owners I receive bids from regardless of which era before I open those bids.
Cash on Hand & Contingency Bids:
As the draft moves on through it’s 10 Rounds of 3 days each, I will keep track of everyone’s Cash on Hand Left & how much each owner/team has each day & as each new cycle starts. What to do if you want to bid on multiple players that cost more money than you have left? Or want to bid on multiple players per grouping? Contingency Bids. Each day – send me a sitemail of who you want to bid on & for how much. You can Tier your bids for example:
“I’ve got $20.7 million left –
bid me winning bids on any of these guys in order until I’m winning them or am out of money:
$7.7 mil on Tim Raines
$6.6 mil on Rickey Henderson
$8.4 mil on Gooden
$5.7 mil on Jack Morris
$4.5 mil on Von Hayes
$1.2 mil on Bob Dernier
Maximum 5-Year Contracts:
Whomever wins that player at whatever price he costs – that salary is that player’s contact in 1964 (or) 1984 and beyond. Keep that player at that salary for one year only (1964 / 1984) and cut him next season or keep him at that salary for up to 5 years. (from 1964 – 1968 (or) 1984 – 1988). You decide the Keepers / Cuts each new season. All Rookies / Cut players become free agents going into the next season.
30-man Rosters:
To help with fatigue – we will Draft 30-man Rosters using (5) manual (AAA) guys. These players can be bid on & won during the 30day auction process. After the 30-day Auction is over – for whomever still needs 30 players (you may run out of money after 20 players) – we will hold a random.org draft to get to 30 players. Any drafted player After the 30-day Auction will be drafted Free but may Not be kept past the current season. So if you wanna keep em,past each current season, you have to bid on em & win em.
Trades Allowed: To keep in the spirit of free agency / commerce, In-Season & Off-Season trades between eras & for varying salaries Are Allowed = (you can even trade “cash considerations” of the next season – but no team can exceed $105 million per season, basically $5 million cap space to wheel & deal with.
Random Alignment / No DH: No matter which Era you play 1964 or 1984 – we will do a Random alignment each season to keep things fresh. Stadiums & Team Names are completely your choice within the whitelisted seasons (1964 & 1984). Other cities, team names allowed / encouraged.
