The things that standout to me is lack of talent. I saw at least 5 pitchers who should not pitch on a team that is looking to win it all. You need like 2 good pitchers to at least make you competetive. I also a lack of talent on the offensive end as well. You have 2-3 decent hitters not enough. You are getting outscored by almost a run a game on average. I did not look in the minors to see if you have better options there but typically that is handled in the off season, fa, trades, rule 5, waiver wire and promotions. Not trying to be rude but the team is not very good and is producing what Id expect for its ratings.

I mean, it's 42 games. HBD has a lot of randomness and great teams can play badly over 42 games.

That said, and this may be hard to hear, I don't think your team is that good. It's not awful, 75-85 wins probably, but I'm not seeing a lot of real high-end talent. There's no obvious holes in the lineup, you've got a lot of decent players, but it looks to me like a solid supporting cast without any stars. The rotation is probably your biggest problem. I see it as a collection of back-end starters. Richard might be an SP4 on a playoff team, the rest are SP5 or worse in my book.

I agree that 42 games is way too early to pass judgement on a team's performance. But I also agree that this is a .500 ball club. You have 3-4 good hitters, but the rest are mediocre. As far as pitching, I happen to think 5-6 of your pitchers could be on my ball club. But there are just too many weak players that can't seal the deal. Develop your young guys and study for the draft. I don't know what you have for an IFA scouting budget, but you could get a boost there, also.

I can't speak to how many games your team is going to win. That depends on the World. I agree with the sentiment above regarding the small sample size.

Enrique Rodriguez is underperforming so far.
Tim Jerchower is underperforming so far
Ruben Acevedo is overperforming so far

I think the team's OK. Agree on your SP being an issue after Richard. You could use an impact player or two but they're hard to come by.

Finally, Helena of Troy is one of the best team names I've seen and you should win the division for it, poke my eye out next time someone names their team after the local ML team. Or Louisville Sluggers.

You have a couple of relievers that shouldn't be pitching in the majors but overall your 4.26 ERA would be a top 25% ERA(AL)in my league which is good enough to win maybe even with an average offense.....and not much different than the 4.11 ERA you had last season that resulted in a winning season. Your offense would be last in my league most years....and is doing significantly worse than your team last season. Too many guys with hitting ratings in the 50s and 60s. I think I would prefer Stuart over some of the guys you have in the lineup and he can play quite a few positions.

1) You have 4 pitchers I wouldn't roster; Baez, Roberts, and the Gonzales brothers. As a consequence of this, your bullpen is pretty shallow, and not very good.
2) You lack front-end starters; your rotation has about 3 mid-rotation guys, a back end guy, and a AAA pitcher.
3) You position player group is weird. Literally everybody except Reyes can play an up-the-middle position and/or 3B, and so I imagine you run an amazing defense out there almost every day. But you could use another 2-3 bats, especially in the AL. If you can trade out of some of the defense for offense that would balance your roster better.

I wouldn't expect to get a ton better than you are--you're scoring 3.7 runs a game, which is horrible for Helena (AL), and while you'll get a little better I'd expect you to top out around 3.9-4. It's hard to make the playoffs if you're in the bottom 4 in the league in runs scored. You're allowing 4.7 runs a game, and that's maybe going to drop to 4.5 or so, better than average but not all that much better. It's a sub-.500 team as currently constructed.
