Hello all. I am going to be starting the next league under the TWISL (Testing What If Sports League) brand, diving into pitcher fatigue.
As many may know if you've seen recent teams in the OL's, I've been trying to test a lot of different things about the sim. My two favorite categories right now are A++ Range and Pitcher fatigue (
this team is testing both at once). In future seasons, I want to explore the different effects between in game fatigue, recent activity fatigue, and “stamina” fatigue (based on total # of pitches). For this league, I want to focus on the latter of the three, stamina fatigue.
Here's how it will play out:
16 teams: 4/4/4/4 split
Salary: $85 million
AAA: No
WW: No
Clones: No
Trades: No
DH: No
BALLPARK: Whatifsports Park (neutral) - In order to control for the best results, I want to use a neutral park here. Though in theory, a
negative hit ballpark would be more beneficial to teams running the fatigue test outside of this experiment.
ALIGNMENT: There will be two different "groups" for the test. Group A (Control) and Group B (Test), 8 teams each. Each league will have 4 of each group, each division will have 2 of each group.
TEAM COMPOSITION:
Pitching: All Group A (
Control) teams and Group B (
Test) teams will roster identical pitching staffs with one exception; the Test teams will remove 1994 Brett Saberhagen from their roster. This will leave all Control teams with 1355IP and all Test teams with 1100IP.
Control teams must employ a 4-man rotation of Maddux, Saberhagen, Halladay, and Lee, while the
Test teams must employ a 3-man rotation of Maddux, Halladay, and Lee. In order to combat early season fatigue, you may start whomever you like the first two games, but rotations need to be set after that. For
Control teams, I would like your autorest to be between 90%-95%, for
Test teams, I would like your autorest to be between 70%-75%. Any micro managing/bullpen setup is up to the individual owner (If you wanna give Fister a spot start here and there to keep your guys from fatiguing too quickly, you can do so - just please consider the theme goals as you do so)

Offense: This is where it gets really interesting. You get to select whatever offense you want. Test teams will have an additional $7,875,590 due to cutting Saberhagen. The only rule is that you may not add another pitcher to your roster. Improve your offense however you like, but don't change the pitching staff.
GOALS: Here are the things I'd like this league to be able to contribute to:
- Increase our understanding of pitchers fatigue - specifically as it relates to the number of pitches thrown.
- How does performance decline at different levels of fatigue? 100%-90%, 90%-80%, 80%-70%, etc.
- Gain understanding about which stats are most impacted by fatigue.
- How big of an advantage (if any) do teams without fatigue have over teams with fatigue?
- Have fun!

I will be running one of the Test teams. There are a lot of great owners on this site, but I do want to say - don't sign up for a Test team unless you're committed to running it and paying attention to it. It will require more micromanaging than most other teams and one team that gets abandoned and left for a death spiral could threaten the integrity of the entire league.
