College Baseball Progressive League

In this Progressive we will only be using the first four WIS seasons of a player, with an exception for some being able to play their 5th WIS season. This will be explained in the Red Shirt Rules below.

A player will be considered a freshman in his first WIS season, a sophomore in his 2nd, a junior in his 3rd and a senior in his 4th.

Select a college and a ball park when you sign up. All ball parks are eligible but there can only be one instance of each park.
Your chosen park must be in the same state as your chosen college. If your chosen college has no ball park in the data base you must use WIS park. WIS park is the only exception to the one instance of each ball park. There can be as many instances of WIS park as needed.

Please limit your college selections to division I schools.

For season one we will be recruiting (drafting) players from 1885 to 1920. As we progress we will add the first year players in 5 season blocks. For season 2 the rookies from 1921 to 1925 will be eligible to be recruited. In season 3 the rookies from 1926 to 1930 will be added and so on.

Any player not taken from previous drafts can be recruited in future drafts.

EXAMPLE-It’s season 3 and no one has recruited pitcher Jesse Duryea whose first WIS season is 1889. He can be taken in season 3 or any other future season as long as no other team has recruited him.

In order to be eligible to be recruited a player must have a minimum of 3 WIS seasons. Players with only 3 seasons will start off as sophomores and is not eligible to be red shirted.
You can also choose to start a player in his 2nd or 3rd season. These players will also start off as sophomores or juniors and are not eligible to be red shirted. You must state your intention to start a player in his second or 3rd season when recruited.

Each team will recruit 35 players for season 1. You will have a 25 man varsity roster and a 10 man J.V. roster(AAA)
Your J.V. players will be your 6 lowest salaried position players and 4 lowest salaried pitchers. This will be the case each season. J.V. players can be at any point of their career here. It will be possible that a sophomore, junior or senior could be on J.V. Salary is the only factor in determining your J.V. Squad.

For future seasons the number of players added will be based on how many players are leaving your team like in regular progressives.

Players leaving your team will be seniors or red shirted players. Teams are also able to drop one player each season. Bad grades, disciplinary reasons or maybe he hit on the coaches daughter. Whatever the reason only one per season is allowed

Red Shirt Rules

Each team can have a maximum of 3 red shirt players each season. You are not required to red shirt any players.
A player can only be red shirted once. You will make your intentions to red shirt a player before recruiting starts each season.
This is the instance where a player may be playing his 5th WIS season.

I hope this isn’t too confusing. We will take it a little slow in season 1 and make sure everyone is on the same page.

You can pick your college and ball park when you sign up. I will wait until 10 to 12 players have joined before I make my selection.

Thanks for taking the time to check this out. Any questions you can post here or site mail me.

Good question. As we fill let’s discuss this. I don’t usually do caps in progressives. But we will have dead ball pitchers in the first few seasons and I would like to see it spread out . Am willing to listen to any ideas

Sorry didn’t answer J.V. Question. 120 for major league cap. No cap for lowest salaried J.V.
Pretty sure I have option to do that but I will check and confirm

I love the idea. But it sounds like too much time that I don’t have.

Putting together the first season will be time consuming. As we progress much less.
This will be fun and something a little different.
You look at some of the players differently that’s for sure.
Babe Ruth is now just an excellent pitcher. His great offensive years will not be played here.

I am looking forward to it. Hope this catches on.

Can J.V. players be called up to the varsity during the year?

Yes. They will be used like we use AAA now

I would like Wisconsin Badgers and Miller Park.
I like the concept except for the Duryea exception rule. Draft will be challenging enough without having to look back at undrafted players in previous time frames. Perhaps if a player is not drafted in his first years of eligibility, within a given draft time frame, he should be ineligible in future draft time frames. Drafting 1889 Duryea in the 1921-1925 time period would be like recruiting a 50 year old linebacker for my Badgers
This is a work in progress. We can definitely look at a time limit for older seasons. I would like to see where we stand after the first draft and put it to a vote.

Can you post a link for finding which players played for a specific college ? I looked on baseball reference and didn't find such a link.
