Today's last day of free agency. Wondering if I should sign this player or if a better one might be available thru the Rule 5 draft. I'm looking for a reliever who can get righties out, and this guy's $2.1 asking price for a 1-year deal is exactly the investment I'm looking for. As a n00b, I've never been thru Rule5 and right now only know own players who will be available (none as good as this guy)...your thoughts?

On the player card there is a thing that says copy to clipboard click that then the little clip board here will paste it.

From my experience good pitchers are rarely available rule v. The only serviceable players are def ss or def c. And in good worlds they are even rare.

Look at your worlds rule v history to get an idea of what has been available and where compared to where you draft.

Wow, no. Your guy is a legitimate front end of the bullpen reliever.

Agree with brianp87 that in good worlds the best you'll get is a defense-first catcher or very back-end reliever (I see those more than I see defensive SS). As a corollary to that, never go into rule 5 expecting to fill a hole other than backup catcher or maybe mopup pitcher, and even then you need a plan B.

You won't find a better pitcher in the Rule 5. If you like him, sign him.

I wouldn't say never, I got a 2 time FOTY through Rule 5 once, but it would involve someone not paying attention....

Agreed. Every now and then you can find an effective low innings relief pitcher, but good World's rarely have any usable mlb guys available in rule 5 unless it's bottom of the roster guys.

Unless you have the first or second pick in Rule 5, you're probably not going to find a ML contributor. And you're very unlikely to find a guy this good.

In my experience, Rule 5 is for filling out your ML roster cheap during rebuilding phase. Anything beyond that is luck of the draw.
