Too many Type A players Topic

I believe there are WAY too many Type A players. Way too many! And too much is based solely on the Overall Rating.

And can someone please explain why Type A compensation works this way:
If a franchise with picks 17-32 takes a Type A player, the awarded franchise gets the 1st round pick plus a supplemental 1st round pick BEFORE a franchise with a Type A that was signed by a team with a top 16 pick.

I understand not taking the top 16 pick from the bad franchise, but why is a team awarded 2 picks before another franchise, when both are Type A players? If you are getting a pick in the 17-32 range, your supplemental pick should come AFTER the other franchises that lost a player to a top 16 franchise. That would seem fair. Wouldn't it?

In my draft this year, I was compensated with the 40th pick and 91st pick from a Type A. Four other franchises were awarded 2 picks before my first compensation pick. Team A got the 17th and 37th picks, Team B got the 18th and 35th picks, Team C got the 23rd and 33rd picks, and Team D got the 25th and 36th picks.

This does not seem like competitive balance to me.

I also believe that, like the MLB, if you lose a Type A player and then sign another Type A player, you lose your compensation. Maybe they could also incorporate a Qualifying Offer during "Resign Free Agents". If the player accepts you keep him, if he doesn't, you get the Type A compensation.

Jaimey - this was the way the MLB comp system worked when HBD was developed. The top 16 picks were protected. There am losing a type A got the first scheduled pick of the signing team after #16, unless the signing team inked multiple type As, then the team with the worse record from the previous season got the first one and so on. For the comp round, all type As are ordered based on previous seasons record, then type Bs with the same ordering. So if a team worse than yours lost a type A to a team with a first pick after 16, they would have 2 comp picks before your first.

I agree there are way too many type As and an update to match what MLB uses now would be a welcome addition, and hopefully that is the direction we may get with the additional resources on board, but if it isn’t, there are rules to what is happening, and they are based on the MLB rules that were in place.

Oh I know there are rules, but someone getting 2 picks before another franchise just does not seem like a competitive balance. And I completely understand and agree with the top 16 picks being protected. i just don't believe it should reset again once the 1st round comp picks are assigned. The teams that did not get a true 1st round pick should get their comp pick prior to the other teams that did. Even if they did not adopt the new MLB drafting order, I think this would be an easy and more fair alternative.
