The more I learn, the more I want to know.

So when it comes to contracts...if for example, a guy is asking for 2 years/$8million...but I think he's worth getting under contract for 3 years...will he accept my 3 year/$12million contract? Or will he only want 2 years? Or more $/year for additional years?

As long as you meet his per-season average demand - 3x12 / 4x16 / 5x20 - he will sign.

If he wants 4 mill you can offer what ever you want as long as it averages 4 mill a year.

I've never had someone not accept so that is interesting and good to know. I have had to restructure as they want it more evenly spread out (not so much in the option year).

yes, very occasionally low overall rating guys will turn down a deal they don't think they're worth. i tried to sign Player Profile: Nick Jay - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports to a 5 yr deal but he would only take 4

I’ve also seen this when free agents lower demands. I’ve tried to sign guys asking for cheap 1 year deals to 2 years to which they decline.
