Is there a way to download the player database? I found a broken link to a 2012 CSV file. Also found an NHL csv file but nothong for mlb.

Yes, there is an updated csv file... I’m on mobile so don’t have the url handy... if someone’s not able to find it for you today, I can post it tomorrow

Not sure about a URL, but I think what you want is available in the draft center. Go into a player search, and at the bottom of the 'Player Search Notes' section you should see "Rather view the core player list in a spreadsheet? Position Players & Pitchers"

That should have a link to download what you're looking for.

Anyone know why the download file only contains some of the searchable data but nowhere near all of what's stored?

There are some categories I like to look at that aren't in there, like RC/27 and IP/G.
