Are you talking about longevity at his current school or in D1? Because I always thought that longevity at current school was a factor, but gillispie (I'm pretty sure it was gillispie) once told me that it isn't. It's just your last 10 seasons regardless of how many schools you've coached in that time.
I actually have no idea though.
My guess is Gil was referring to when 2 coaches apply for the same job, it looks at each coach's resumes the past 10 seasons (or at least it used to work this way). Before 3.0, there was a coach reputation (or maybe it was called loyalty?) rating. This didn't matter much at D3 or D2 but it definitely mattered at D1. When you'd take over a new school you'd automatically move from an A+ to a C-. This prevented you from moving to another D1 job right away. After a season or 2 your reputation/loyalty would get back to A or A+ and you could move jobs again. Oddly enough, all Ivy League schools used to require an A+ in this rating to coach there. I wonder if Notre Dame does as well. Heck, I wonder if the reputation component was done away with when 3.0 rolled out.
Full disclosure-I didn't actually look to see how long the OP has been at Bama but based on the info in the thread I'm guessing he hasn't been there long.
