Player Twist New Progressive League (1903 / 1953)
Rules
  • Teams: 24
  • Salary Cap: None
  • DH: Yes (both leagues)
  • Waiver Wire: No
  • Draft: Initial Draft will be snake style 1-24; 24 – 1, etc. First Season will be (1903/1953). Draft order will be determined randomly.
  • AAA: Yes – Average. Six position players and two pitchers.
  • Minors: Yes – Each team will be able to designate two players per season to the minors. That means they are on your team but do not count as one of your 25 players.
  • IR/DL: There is no limit on the number of players on a team’s roster who are not WIFS eligible for a season who may be placed on the disabled list. The number of players on the DL like is with the minors has no impact on the 25 active players.
  • Stadiums: All are available. owners will draft their stadiums anytime during the initial draft and there will be 26 rounds not 25 initially, in order to allow for stadium drafting. Owners may switch stadiums every five years if they so choose. Some stadiums have more than one iteration but there can only be one Fenway Park for instance.
  • Subsequent Drafts: The draft order will be set at the transaction deadline (120 games.) The team must win 40 games by the aforementioned game 120 to qualify for the lottery, which will consist of five teams. Drafted players must appear in the WIFS data base in order to be drafted. Picks will be in reverse win order of wins. Tie breakers will be as such. If Team A and Team B both have 80 wins, the team with the most runs scored will get the higher pick, if tied we will go to HR, if tied, doubles and if still tied, triples.
  • Partial Seasons: An owner may use a full or partial season of their player if the choice is available.
  • Trades: Six vetoes will void any and all trades. Draft picks may be traded up to FIVE years later than the year the trade is made. All post-deadline trades (the period of time from the transaction deadline to the first game of the following season) will be recorded in the league trade thread in the league forum. Similar rules apply. Six vetoes nullify the trade. The vetoes must be recorded within five days of the proposed trade. PLEASE READ THIS. When you trade a player or trade for a player, there will be another player twist pulled to gauge which year you get (see below). In real life sometimes traded players do great and sometimes not. If you for example trade for the 1987 Mike Scott, the new owner may get the 1986 Mike Scott post “reroll”.
  • Disputes: In the event of a dispute where there is no operative rule or guideline, or if their interpretation is unclear, the commissioner will make a ruling. If three or more owners object to the ruling, the commissioner’s view does not stand and the issue is brought to all the owners through a vote which will be notified to all owners through via sitemail.
  • Rules Change: These can be discussed at any time. The first owner to want a rule change should start a thread and we’ll use that going forward to discuss any changes. However, in order to avoid multiple suggestions, of which some may be unnecessary, a proposal to make, modify or eliminate a rule must be seconded by three or more owners in addition to the proposing owner before it can be voted on.
  • Voting: Each owner gets one vote. Majority rules on all votes. Majority mean the majority of owners who vote, not the majority of owners. There must be at least 14 votes cast on any issue for the vote to be valid.
  • Player Twist: Please read this as it is very important. Unlike other leagues where if you say draft the 1986 Tim Raines, the next year you get the 1987 Raines and so on. While that is fun it is too predictable and not how real life works. Using Tim Raines as an example this is how this league will run.

Heading into the 1986 season, Tim Raines for example has a career from 1981 to 2002….Your Tim Raines will have a season that could be two years before 1986 or two years after 1986 or 1986 itself. The season will be determined by Random.org. with the results below:
1 two back
2 one back
3 one back
4 same
5 same
6 same
7 same
8 one forward
9 one forward
10 two forward
= 1 is two years back; 2 is one year back and so on. 8 is one year forward and so on.

So if you get a 3 then you play the 1985 Raines (one back), if you get a 4 you play the 1986, if you get a 10 you play the 1988 Raines. For players who have fewer than three seasons available it will adjust. For example if you have the 2001 Tim Raines, his last season is 2002. So if you get a 10, you only move one season ahead not two, since two is impossible. The rookie Tim Raines, 1981 can only go forward not backwards so if you have the 1981 Raines, unless you get an 8,9, 10 from random.org you play that rookie season for better or for worse. In 1982, you may draw his 1981 season and so on. Once Raines retires in 2002 he is gone and cannot be used in 2003. If you use a player like Joey Devine, he only has one season and therefore that is the season you use and he is only eligible for that season, etc.

Each owner will receive their random numbers after the draft and their 25 man roster is set. In an event that say Tim Raines was injured in 1987 and rolled an “8” he would revert back to 1986 as he cannot move to a year he didn’t play.

To reiterate, once a player is traded there will be another twist so if you trade the 1986 Tim Raines, the new owner may get the ’86 version or another version like that.

Please let me know if you are interested and please post any questions you may have. I am currently running an old fashioned progressive and believe I have the hang of it so would like to try this one.
