Phils AAA utility guy hit .444. During Olympic qualifying. Olympic manager Mike Scioscia told the Phils he was pretty good. So they brought him to the majors.
Tuesday night he gets a pinch hit bunt single.

Wed night he gets his first start and his first double.

He then comes to bat in the bottom of the ninth. Two out, Andrew McCutchen on first with a walk. Today he is Capt. America. Teammates went crazy. SP Zach Eflin came out from the trainers room.

After the game Capt America’s parents from Cal and siblings from Iowa and Utah celebrate on the field with him.

All hail Capt America ( LUKE WILLIAMS) at least for now. Incredible 48 hours. In AAA 71 AB, 0 HR!

This reminds me of Ron Cash of the '73 Tigers. He came up late that season and tore the cover off the ball (46 PA's with a .410/.467/.487 slash (163 OPS+ for the season). The Motor City press was riding high with this guy.... it was very late in the career of Stormin' Norman Cash and "the Tigers had another great hitting Cash" to ultimately take over 1B. Tiger fans couldn't wait for 1974's season to start. Well, start it did, but Ron Cash never did. He only had 63 PAs in '74 with a .226/.222/.258 slash. His last game in the MLB was early October of '74 and went 0-3 vs. the O's. He went back to the minors for '75-76 and was out of baseball at age 26. Yet we remember ye Ron!

Lot of flash in the pans. OF Dominic Brown in 2013 hit about 15 HR in one month. His next best season was 10 HR.

Even Nick Maton got off to a great start. Then he fizzled. Maybe, just maybe Luke Williams can turn into a big leaguer.
