A coach just qualified for D1, and his resume has me totally rethinking the minimum path to qualify for D1 jobs. I think the only thing that kept me from qualifying for D1 jobs in Tark after my E8 run at Barry was my crappy loyalty (I went D3 -> D2 dumpster fire for one season -> Barry; 3 teams in 3 seasons... and once my loyalty got back up to either A- or A after my 3rd season at Barry I qualified for bottom-tier D1s). And since he never made the D2 NT and has a sub-.500 career win%, I don't think there's a NT appearances or win% barrier to unlocking the bottom-tier D1 jobs - (there could be a one or 2 NT appearances in your entire career at any level, but there's clearly not a "must reach at least one NT in D2 before going to D1" requirement; and surely the win% requirement would be at least .500... right?).
He never made it to the NT in D2 in that world, which has me thinking the change is that you just need a minimum of two seasons at D2 without changing jobs more than once (i.e. one D3 season to unlock D2, and then the two D2 seasons - either because there's a "2 seasons at D2" requirement, or because it takes those two seasons at one school to get your loyalty above the D1 job "loyalty requirement").
Putting this guy's case together with the guy who commented on another post I created about trying to get to D1 in Tark, these are the absolute minimum requirements:
One season at D3 seems to qualify you for all D2 jobs, (unless - maybe - it's a terrible D3 season... one commenter said he had an awful first D3 season and either didn't qualify for any D2 jobs or he only qualified for some [I don't remember exactly what he said, obviously]. But that was a long time ago, and could have changed since then).
Two D2 seasons - either because two D2 seasons are required, or because the loyalty drop from changing schools when going from D3 to D2 requires two seasons to get above the loyalty requirement needed to unlock D1 jobs.
And there could be a one or two NT appearances requirement, but they can be D3 or D2 since this coach never made the D2 NT.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts!
