So I noticed something odd today, and I am wondering if there are more examples of this, or if there is something I'm just not getting.
So I referring to 1894 Billy Hamilton. His RF for the OF is listed as 2.77.
According to BaseballReference, his RF/9 is 3.02 and his RF is 2.92. So where did this 2.77 come from? Is this a mistake? Is this normalized some how?
I looked at the rest of Hamilton's ranges, and none of them match up to BaseballReference.
What I have noticed is, prior to the mound moving, so pre 1893, all his RFs are inflated, and post 1893, all are deflated.
Is this just range factor being normalized?
Just for fun I looked at modern Billy Hamilton too since he was on the same search, and also his RFs do not align, but not in an obvious of a pattern as 19th Century Billy Hamilton.
So what exactly is going on here?
