Just randomly thought about it, but has anyone ever had a diamond in the rough who went to the hall of fame? I know it's hard to find quality major leaguers as DITRs, but I wonder if there has ever been some HOF or MVP types?

Even when they have amazing ratings there's so many factors working against them.

I can't think of anyone off the top of my head. Seen a lot of really good DITR C's but by they almost never have the DUR to qualify for annual awards. RP's probably have the best shot since their STA gets such a huge boost, but RP's usually only get in if they have huge SV numbers. And why waste a 80/40 DUR/STA pitcher's production potential at the closer position?

I have won many CY Young awards with DITR pitchers, but I simply have not played HBD long enough to get one of them in the Hall yet. I agree with Brian -- the relief pitchers have the best shot, but it is the big IP ones that I'd vote for.

Craddock is probably the best one I've had, but he is still really young.
Another great one is in Moneyball, he isn't one of mine, but he is really good. He won a Cy Young two seasons ago and if he as used the way he is being used now, earlier in his career, he might be a good HOF candidate.

Also, on offense, it's the same issue Brian mentioned -- the better performing DITRs are the ones that have lower durability or health so they end up playing less games and not getting the counting stats. Still, many of them are great players similar to a protected pick type of player. And not having to spend that type of of draft capital is is pretty nice.

Big Philly Style -- not a Hall of famer, but if he was better managed, he likely could have had a real shot.

Wow, can't remember seeing a DITR pitcher on Craddock's level.

Louis Graham is the GOAT position player DITR from any of my playing time. But his 31 DUR made him a rest replacement/playoff ringer.
