Stadium Rating 1B and IF A+ Fielding Range Topic

Is There Any Stadium Where an Entire IF of A+ Fielding Range Would Perform Better ...

It is true that if I were to have an entire IF of A+ and A+ then this would help the Pitcher ...

Is it also True then that I might put this same infield in a Stadium with 1B Rating of +1 or +2 or +3 and expect less Singles ? ... And would this not imply that the Algorithm or Decision Tree or Both would not differentiate between a GO and a FO which of course the IF would not be involved in ...

That is to say then --- Is there any Stadium where an entire IF of A+ and A+ would perform better ... Intuitively I would say No --- After all a Stadium with the LF and CF and RF Fences 600 Feet away would have to facilitate more singles for the simple reason that the outfielders would have to play deeper to make sure a ball did not get over there heads for an inside the park HR ... Then today i happened upon an article on Sabermetrics referring to GB FB and LD (Line Drives) hence my thinking of the IF because an infielder with Range A+ might catch or stop a LD ... So such an IF of perfection would be relevant only to the Pitching Staff being the benefactor ...

I don't look at the decisiom tree and all that. But IF with great range almost always turn hits into outs with a plus play while an OF will often hold base runners up. Thus I consider A+ IF as stopping hits more so than an A+ OF.

That's just how it seems to me.

Yes thank you FatDad I had never thought of it that way before ... As Commissioner I am trying to win using common sense and also want to be able to understand the Decision Tree and the machinations so to speak and idiosyncrasies of the game as i like to analyse data

OF with A+ range will take away many many hits as well, not just holding up base runners.

My anecdotal experience is 80/20 of OF + players being hits turned to ours versus XBH held up.

As for stadiums, my favorite is hilltop- I generally get 150-200+ plays there

But what I really do not know is where to put 2B Billy Herman with his 40 + Plays in the Infield ...

If I were to think that the Stadium Rating Factor For 1B (Singles) applies only to Fly Ball Singles then it would not matter ...

Herman (or 1887 King Kelly) will do great anywhere. But anything that has a +hit stadium will give more chances for + plays.

Also, you essentially have 4 threads with the same questions. I love the questions, but will likely get more traction keeping it all in one thread

So a A+ Fielding Range OF would make more + Plays in a Stadium with 1B 2B and 3B Effect +3 than in Petco ...

I have often wondered if i should put a DeadBall Pitcher with low HR/9 Innings in a LF -3 RF -3 or the opposite

In Petco, you reduce the number of chances for a hit to be turned into an out, so you’ll likely have less + plays. In Hilltop (or any positive hit park) you have more hits to turn into ours.

In same vein, the worse the pitching staff, the more + Plays you’ll likely have (see just4me’s + play thread where he almost had 100 plus plays with one guy). my Making You Earn A++ teams you see in OL’s are loosely based around this idea, that I can take an average/just above average pitching and put them in a heavily offensive park with great range everywhere. My pitching typically finishes around the top in the league.

First (1) no one has answered to the contrary or definitively so I am assuming that the Singles or 1B Stadium Rating Factor has no relevance then to the Infields Fielding Range since it would deal exclusively with Singles that are Fly Balls or (LD) Line Drive Singles (Sabremetrics has an article on GB FB with LD included) ------- and therefore are singles for the sole reason of the Stadium Dimensions ... I am not trying to be mathematical -- argumentative or otherwise I am trying to understand this intuitively ...

(2) Is there such a thing then as too much of a good (an overabundance of a minus (-) that would inhibit to the put of being superfluous [unnecessary especially through being more than enough] thing as in a Starting Pitcher who has not allowed a HR in an entire Season being put in Petco or a Stadium where LF and/or RF Factor is a - 4 ...

Coors Field will produce many XBH for Lorenzo Cain to make a Triple a Double and a Double a Single and also will produce more Singles to be turned into Outs (more often + Play ~ 80% of the time) ... The SS Andrelton Simmons will make many + Plays in the InField to help make the Pitching ERA Top of the League ... That is the end of the discussion then ...

The 1B stadium rating is all hits, not just singles (based on the presentation slides - though this is still debated here), and can be any kind of hit (groundball, line drive, fly ball. Hilltop isn’t just a +3 to flyball hits, but all hits. So infielder range is just as important.

many People employ the strategy of *doubling down* low Hr pitchers in - HR parks, low OAV in - hit parks, etc. It’s all subjective on what you feel is unnecessary.

Thank You chargingryno for that succint answer ... I Posted this and then read you response while i was typing so as to delete it and think some more ... Anyway ...

"So just4me stated that the Decision Tree works to determine First if it is a + Play or not and then among other things lastly the Stadium Ratings have their Effect ... This order of things bothered me until I realized that like a computer it is a Zero or a 1 and on to the next step ... If it is not then a PA affected by Fielding Range so as to make a + or - Play then the other variables have their effect and lastly Coors will make a plethora of "Hits" of every kind" ...

It was stated earlier in another Post that in Performance History 1B would be a "Hit Rate" but I thought then that would make 1B in Stadium Ratings just Singles ...

https://www.whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx?topicID=519598&threadID=11831758#l_11831758

I think you’ll find that most relevant, especially the last paragraph of that post:

”If it's not a HR, then using a regression from the pitcher ERA and the batters 3B/H and 2B/H, the SIM works to see if it's a + play on defense , or a triple or double the same as the HR above and uses the park effects the same way. Any hits that didn't become HR, + play, 3B, or 2B are singles.”

So there is a Debate and I was confused by the order of things as i know the Decision Tree does not figure out if it is a + or - play taking into account the Stadium ratings because they would be first then to be taken into effect ...

Thank You then I will put my Infielders with great Fielding Range in a Stadium with 1B a positive number.. ... All of this and all the Posts were about my wanting to know if I could make at least 2B and SS A+ Range so as to put them in a + 1B stadium

2021 Jonathan Schoop or 1887 King Kelly will get you 25-50 + plays at 2B. They’re two of my favorites.
