Please share your experience. How many times have you ever lost a game, sim opponent or not, in which you were a 20+ point favorite? Does this happen to everybody now and then? Is it ever supposed to happen?

I have 2 D1 teams: one, fairly inexperienced, went 17-10, top 100 RPI, but lost 2 games, 1 home/1 road, in such cases within the same season.

The other has 4 senior starters, currently 19-4, has been top 50 RPI most of the season, but lost to a 40-point home dog after leading 20-2. Most recent game took OT to beat a 29-point home dog.

the 'lines' in the game are very crummy and should basically be ignored. they are basically there to make things interesting.

now, do you lose games where you are REALLY a 20 point favorite? occasionally. but most likely, that is not happening twice in a season, unless maybe you spend all your time beating up on really crappy teams, and even then, really poor luck would be required. my guess is, those games were significantly closer than 20 point gaps in reality. if you'd like to post the games i'm sure folks would be up to take a quick look and let you know what was really a huge upset, and where things were likely closer than they seem right now.

Anyone know how they figure out the lines?

This happens pretty often. My three best ones:

I had an Illinois team lose to TWO good sims on the road in a single non-con. I was shocked because I thought my team was the best in the country. The sim teams were good and ended up making the PI but we were better...ended up cruising to a national championship. 30+ favorites in both games.

I had a 3 seed Idaho State team take a loss to a sub-200 RPI team during conference play. We were FB/Press and were beating similar teams by 50 most of the year. In fact, we had beaten the team by 38 earlier in the season.

Here's a 24 point favorite one that just happened to my 24-1 Winona team.

You know- this does happen in college basketball. Every year teams lose games they shouldn’t in conference play. Maybe not as a huge favorite (20 plus points) but as big favorites.

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate the magic upset butto….er, “slowdown”? Yeah? Ok, carry on.

Anecdotal- Commonly seen in upsets - favored team shoots one of their lowest FT % of the season and the dog shoots one of their highest FT% of the season. And of course, there's is nothing you can do about your opponent's FT shooting ... that I am aware of.

Hmmm, the link isn't working to the game itself. But you can at least see from the comments...... I lost to a 0-20 team I think. And I was a 64 point favorite

I almost fell victim to this the other night. Was a 51 pt favorite over a 1 win team in my conference. Had to hit a shot with 6 secs to go in order to win it at home.
