Haven't come across a guy like this until now with such extreme hitting splits. Despite a 0 vLHP, against lefties last season, he managed a .372 OBP and .848 OPS. Only 105 AB's so probably just a fluke, but interesting nonetheless.

Wow!! That's gotta be rare. Him being left handed makes him even worse against LHP, but still snuck in some healthy ABs.

I’ve found that poor hitter splits can be covered by other ratings (down to zero as in this example) vs pitchers with splits under ~50 make the player basically useless regardless of other ratings

He is about as extreme as possible, really. However I've long had the feeling there's nothing wrong with having a player who has only one bad rating. Like broadway said, the other great ratings make up for it.

Yeah, I've had guys with single digit vL or vR that I had intentions of platooning, but by the end of season they wind up with decent numbers on their weaker side.

Guys like that are my absoloute 100% favourite. If you platoon him he will be a lead off or number 2 hitter for the ages. Best part is the wonky splits keep him off of everyone’s list. Getting him at 31st is a steal.

Gregory Goldman: https://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerRatings.aspx?pid=8944499

is my favourite lead-off man of all time. I got him 73rd overall and never had to pay him over 4.6 and he will probably end his career over .275 avg with close to a 400 OPS. He’ll never win any awards or make the hall because he platoons but against right handed pitching there is no one else I’d rather have lead off.

Chisenhall should be far better then Goldman as long as you don’t expose him to Left handed pitching.

Yeah, that's another great example. I had this guy #2 on my board at the time. Couldn't believe so many passed on him. Or maybe he just missed a ton of draft boards entirely

I wrote on another topic here, I have drafted a succession of SPs with sub-50 or 50ish LHB splits, who have become solid major leaguers. After awhile I came to think that other owners were probably knocking them down their prospect lists, and elevating other prospects with better LHB.

If you are willing to put in the work on the draft board as listed here, I feel like you give yourself a big advantage over a lot of teams. Some won’t touch the draft board at all, some will sort by overall and that is it, and some will miss out on guys that were mentioned in this thread because they were ‘missing something’

making your picks count with guys like this is what turns good teams great and is what changes a 2-3 season of making the playoffs into a dynasty of making the post season 5-10 in a row.

I've got a 3rd rounder working his way through the minors. Unfortunately, he's RH and will only be useful vs LHP.

I'd take Frank Roberts in a heartbeat. He comes off the bench well and pinch runs. Combine that with his awesome leftie splits and that is a great 3 tool player. (my 5 tools in the HBD are very different from MLB 5 tools)
