Cleverly Named Progressive Draft League (22 Open) Topic

Been a while since I played, glad to see there are positive changes. Used to have userid jbasinger, it's crazy to see so many familiar names still around. I always enjoyed the progressive leagues but it doesn't look like there's much room in any so I figured I might be able to start a new one... Hopefully we have plenty of players with the 50% off. All are welcome, vets and rookies alike.

I am aware and sad that the all draft league was posted right before I finished figuring out my rule set and almost didn't post this.... But I'm happy to do the admin work if we can get enough interest.

12 round serpentine draft, determined by lottery.

The subsequent drafts will be ordered by records, bottom 4 will have a lottery for their order.

Teams will use the rookie season for all drafted players this season. Next season we will use sophomore seasons of all players that were originally drafted. Previously non-drafted players will be rookies if drafted. Every player in the original draft class will permanently progress together (even if they are released), as will subsequent classes progress together.

Owners may release up to 2 players per season.

Once a player reaches the end of their career they will retire and have a cooling off season before re-entering the draft pool as rookies. Released players are immediately available for draft at their current 'progression'.

If you’re looking for a progressive to join, zizzo24 has some openings in his league. Reach out to him.

Oh, thanks Ben! I had no idea, I'll reach out. No worries if this fails, then.

Welcome, gurand!

I can also put you on a waitlist for both of my leagues. Full at the moment though.

I think I saw you had a waitlist of 3 or so, yeah. Let me talk to zizzo as well... I don't know if I could handle multiple progressives, just yet.

The problem I see is that if an owner really screws up the initial draft, it will be almost impossible for them to recover because almost all the useful players will have already been chosen.

Thank for the feedback, nc!

With no cap, I was thinking you should have more than enough minutes to fudge around a depth chart with two new players to make an entirely different team than the season before. Should we increase the cut to 3 or 4 players per season to speed this up? Force every team to do at least one cut to keep the pool moving? I think there are more than 288 players worth drafting in the SIM, which would be our initial draft class size.

Or maybe only 5 players are allowed to have been one of the 515 All-Stars (NBA + ABA)? List here: https://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/all_star_by_player.html

There may be more than 288 players worth drafting, but there are less than 100 players that can turn a bad team good (and all of them will be drafted in the initial draft). I was in a league somewhat similar to this years ago, the parallel progressive league. It was similar to this except each conference had their own draft (so you'd have two Jordans, two LeBrons, etc.). It didn't last even ten seasons because the teams that were poorly drafted initially had no way to recover. They dropped their teams and no one wanted to take them. Either there would have to be forced turnover of rosters; or you would have to stagger the great players that are eligible to be drafted.

Oh, wow. Even with both conferences different? That's crazy. Understood. Thanks for the insight! Forced turnover sounds like we could make it fun.

How does this sound?

All teams must release 2 players. For PO teams, one of these must rank in the top 5 min/g. The two championship teams will then retire a different top 5 min/g player (meaning they cannot be drafted until the following season).
Teams may release up to two additional players.

I’m in.

Id like to see more roster turnover or stagger availability of great players.
