Before the season even began, I blew my IFA wad a nice, 22 year-old LHSP. He comes in with an overall rating of 74 and could fit into my rotation immediately. His projection is an overall rating of 82 (based on my 20 int scouting, no my advance scouting.) His makeup is mediocre, like 67. Would I see better development if I make him proceed through the levels of the minor league system, or will he develop the same if I called him up this year after game 20.

As long as he keeps his spot in the rotation, he will develop fastest at the level with the best coaching. I assume that is the ML.

However, while he will develop fastest up there, it will start his clock right away, Meaning you'll lose control of him sooner. What's his patience rating? That will affect whether or not he accepts multiple long term contracts.

Hope I'm not raining on anyone's parade here but a 22 year old International is almost fully developed. Someone else said that Internationals are progressed as if they had started developing the same time that an 18yo High Schooler did... so what he is at 22 is almost fully cooked.

And bj's right, you'll start his salary upgrades immediately.

Well, 22-yr-old INTLs often don't develop at all, and only very rarely gain more than a couple of points per important category. So your decision should be made based on whether he can be an important part of the difference between making and not making the playoffs. If you think you're going to make the playoffs, and he's one of your 5 best SP, then start him in the majors. If you're rebuilding, then don't run his clock.

thanks for the advice, everyone. Bringing him up after 20 games I think. Since he's a 22-yo rookie he'll be in his 32-33 after the one long term contract I give him at the normal time. I love the idea of keeping good players for their entire career but sometimes it just isn't possible.
